We just built a deck and its already covered in sap. Its time to purchase a pressure washer. We will use it to wash vehicles, the deck and the drive/patios.

Help me decide:

Gas or Electric?

Any model recommendations?

I like my gas powered one, but its really a question of how often you will be using it. Do you want to deal with old gas or just plug it in? I use mine fairly often in the summer. I have two good friends with electric ones and they love the simplicity. Specs were fairly close to my gas powered. I think my gas one is 2300 psi and the new electric Dewalt a friend got is 2400 psi. His gpm was down a bit though at 1.10 gpm. It worked great for cleaning off their deck!

I always wanted a good pressure washer with a Honda engine, but then I found a Karcher electric open box that I couldn't pass up. For 9 years it's cleaned my patio and driveway, retaining walls, garage door and siding, dirt bike, and truck when it needs it. My parents borrow it about once every 2 years to clean their deck too. At 1.5 gal and 1800 psi it's not putting out as much as a gas pressure washer, but I'm very pleased and I haven't found a job yet it couldn't clean up. When it dies I'll probably get another electric unit. You do need their "dirt blaster" wand which spirals the water for really stubborn clean-ups, but the normal fan sprayer works fine most of the time. Mines a K3.540, not sure if it's still made. Mine does have "made in italy" stamped on the bottom, not sure if they make other models elsewhere.

Costco have an electric one on sale now. husqvarna... I have the Ryobi $99 one, it's ok not enough GPM water to wash anything efficiently. The SunJoe Brand is also very popular on Amazon.

It is quieter than the Gas Version but less GPM or Power....

If you have to choose one, I would get the gas one , if Noise is not a factor.

My Craftsman Gas pressure washer is 2.5 or 2.9 GPM it's good if I wanted to wash decks, but by no mean a professional efficient, I would buy the 4GPM ones if I have a choice to do it again. But you'll have to do maintenances on 4cycle gas small engines and the pressure washer pump etc if you choose Gas.

Most people think they need more pressure washer than they actually do. To give you an idea of equality you should know that pressure units are the gpm multiplied by the psi.

Both the flow and the PSI are important when looking at the actual quality of the washer.

Also, you should know that there is a misconception about pressure washers and hot water pressure washers. A standard pressure washer can use up to 120 degree water which is higher in most cases than your water heater provides. You can run hot tap water through them for degreasing, sap etc. where heat would be helpful. A true hot water pressure washer heats the water to nearly boiling before spraying it.
