pressure washer pump going out?

Today I noticed a strong sulfur smell like gear oil after using. It has a couple drops of thick oil on the ground and I THINK came out of the top BLACK tube.

What causes the pump oil to come out of the top tube ? I also feel the PS has lost some of it's power these days. I looked up the pump and it's like $160. How do I know I need a new pump or not?

I am also missing the mesh for the hose inlet and wonder if this can cause too much inlet pressure so the pump oil comes out (we have very clean water and I used a new garden hose) where can I find a generic mesh for garden hose connection?

Is there any chance it froze, even a little in the winter? They don't always split open, sometimes the seals just fail and you lose pressure. I replaced my pressure washer last year, but it would have been cheaper to change out the pump. Sometimes I just give in to the simpler solution.....

hi, the oil and the water shouldn't come into contact. did you add any oil? looking at your pic, that pump is not worth putting much $ into. similar pumps run about 100.00. not sure what it would cost to install, but it's easy if the old pump cooperates. how many HP is the engine?

Well, I remember the oil filler plug came loose and I leaked some oil a few weeks ago, I think I went to top it off and maybe I put too much. I remember years ago when I put in too much oil it comes out of that tube also.
Does anyone know if the breather tube (black tube in picture) is for the engine oil, or pump oil? Definitely smell like gear oil to me.

they sell special pump oil. but you can use 30w non-detergent. the pump only needs to be filled half full, at least that's how mine is. alot of pumps have a sight glass that shows oil level.

That was for the engine oil plug. I have never messed with the pump oil
The engine is b&s 9.0 torque. It's the best engine I have used because the carb has never clogged even when i leave untreated gas for months, it starts easy

if your engine is in good working order, i would just go and get another pump. any pump with a 3/4" hollow shaft will slide on.
