Hello I’ve got a troy bilt 2700 psi pressure washer. It’s the easy start. Im haven pressure issues with it and I’ve narrowed it down to being either the pump or pump head. My question is how can you test the pump itself to know that it just the head giving me trouble or the whole pump itself?

sometimes you can clean out the aluminum oxide that gets in the springs / check balls, and that makes it better but in my experience the aluminum oxidizes internally, then what you call the pump head goes bad. All the pumps I've bought come with a new pump head. Their life span is about 3 years on many of these unless you drain them after each use - in which case you can extend it to about 5 years. I'd just buy a whole new pump and head. You can try removing the check springs and balls one at a time and cleaning them out but I think you will see lots of corrosion in there.

Just get the whole thing, I tried just a head rebuilt kit and it lasted 30 minutes. I bought this one from amazon to resurrect my Troy bilt this spring, it’s been used quite a bit this year and is holding up so far.

That’s great thanks!!! Every pump head I found was 60-70 dollars and all the whole pump assembly’s where double that. I will definitely go this route if it’ll fit.

I bought this thing used I might add and paid next to free for it. Motor runs great so if I gotta add a hundred to it I’ll be ok with it.

Timely thread - a buddy of mine is moving and gave me his old pressure washer on the weekend. Engine runs fine but no pump pressure (his diagnosis, havent touched it since I moved it home). Just starting to look into potential fixes / replacement parts.

A/R are built in Italy and a well built pump.

It looks like a real solid pump but SGKent was right corrosion has had its way with it. I’m not sure how it got that bad the thing still looks brand new it had to be kept in a garage. But i did find that same pump and brand so it looks like I’ll give it another shot. Any tips on keepin these things alive?

A/R pumps I just grab a new one from eBay, never worked out trying to rebuild them, You can buy them cheap.

Only tip I would have on making them last would be do not let them freeze in the winter and do not run hot water through it ! If You can change the oil in the pump do that too !
