Pressure Washer

I had a Generac 2700 psi 2.3 GPM pressure washer. It did ok, but the pump kicked the bucket even though it was an AR pump. Looked to have been sealed but on the side it said to use oil.

Anyways, I am thinking about going bigger. Its just about Spring and a lot of stuff needs to be cleaned.

Im trying to debate whether to just get another pump for the Generac or get another pressure washer with higher psi and gpm.


I have a tractor to clean, etc.

Ive been debating on a Simpson 4200 psi 4 gpm washer but saw someone say the 11 hp Honda engine couldnt get that washer to put out that much pressure with that much water.

Looking for something with a triplex pump and a good Honda motor.


Any suggestions or opinions?

This is the one I purchased a few months ago. I have used it 4 or 5 times and it works great. I got it from Watercannon.com. Cost was about $750 with easy start feature.

Are simpsons a good brand i see teo 4200 psis with 4 gpm with the same honda engine but two different pumps. One has the AAA Pump ($999) and the other has the CAT Pump ($1200)

sasquach, they're both good units when functioning. cat pumps are expensive to fix when they fail. can't go wrong with a honda gx engine, tough as nails. are you sure you need a pressure washer that big. what ever you end up with remember to lengthen the life of your, never let your unit sit and idle without use. heat kills pumps.

Simpson are the best. I use these professionally and have a few. I have one that is 21yrs old and still works great. Honda engine is a must. Change pump fluid annually. I would go with at least a 3,000 psi unit with belt drive. These unit last a long time when maintained.

Several odd jobs like pavement and cleaning the side of a house.

I may even use it to strip paint.

My generac was good but i dont want to have to keep replacing pumps because its a sealed unit

if you're happy with the engine you can replace the pump with 1 that doesn't need to be thrown out when it's not cooperating. if you stay with a smaller machine, i'd suggest you look into a small surface cleaner and a turbo (rotating) nozzel, much more effective than stock plug in tips.

The engine still runs but Im really thinking about going with Honda and CAT pump and be done with it.

I could always used the generac pump as a fire pump in the woods

that would be a good choice. like i mentioned in my earlier reply cat pumps are about twice as much for common parts. treat it well it should last a good long time.

I would get a belt drive but I wouldnt use it all the time.


I would use this once in awhile..i may even carry it to work on occassions to clean equipment.

Im just still thinking hard whether to spend $1200 or $200 to fix the Generac; though the Generac could easily fail...though the new washer could too.

Simpson has a 3200 psi 2.8 gpm washer with the hinda gc motor and AAA triplex pump- though i see some say AAA pumps ****. This washer cost $399.

If yoi were me, what would you do?

Occasional wash equipment, buildings, some pavement, strip paint.

Wont use all the time.

are you mechanically inclined? buying used might be an option. there's going to be a lot of used units showing up online (craigs list) when the weather breaks. alot of machines won't start because of sitting, and there's alot of folks that just go buy new ones. pumps are pretty easy to get into, and the parts that fail are right there in front of you. just a matter of finding a source, i have a shop a couple miles from me that usually has parts, but can always order the ones they don't. i'm not sure you need a big belt drive machine, but if you think that's whats needed. price to fix/buy big stuff is bigger than small stuff.
