I am looking for advise on how to pressurize black iron pipe for inspection. I have used the proper pipe dope and ran a length of 16ft with two ninety degree bends. It is for a propane direct vent stove. My question is should I just cap the end of the section to pressurize, and what kind of guage do I use and how much pressure should be applied? Sorry if these questions seem stupid.....maybe they are but I have never installed gas pipe before but like doing my own work and have trouble paying someone $75/hr if i can do it myself! Thanks for any info.

Here the inspector wanted to see the system hold 15psi for 45 min on a gauge that displayed no higher than 30psi. I pointed out to him that I had the system pressurized to 30 psi for days, but he wanted me to lower the pressure to 15psi (WARNING you MUST isolate the gas burning devices from the lines BEFORE you pressurize them to 15psi or you will destroy them) So all you need is a gauge and a "T" with a schrader valve on it so you can fill it up to the 15 psi. Put a cap on the far end with sealent.
At the supply end, before it is hooked up, put in a tee with a guage and a schrader valve. Different places want different pressures for different times, but W-C's experience is typical.
Once you pass then you can hook it up. They assume that if you did all the joints in the extension well enough to hold, then you can do one more as good.
