I go out to garage/estate sales looking mostly for tools just about every Saturday. But I tend to see very few ratchets. My guess is that I am usually too late and somebody else got to them first. Well the other Saturday while I was on the way from one sale to the next, I saw another household setting up. It was a bit early for my next sale so I decided to stop. It was 6:50am. He had some furniture out and I asked him if he had any tools. He nodded yes and said Snap-On.

He said I had to wait because the tools were in the garage and he couldn't get in there before 7am (looked like there was a rental unit attached to the garage).

I wait a bit and out come the tools and they are mostly all Proto Professional and mostly impact.

But I grab some stuff and am very happy.

From the top

1) Proto saltus wrench
2) Snap-On GOEX14B wrench
3) Snap-On GS71 ratchet date code 1971
4) Snap-On GF830 1998
5) Proto Pro 5249PBL ratchet. Love the handle!
6) Proto Pro QR 52528BL. Love the spinner ring!
7) Proto Pro 5250BL. The mechanism is just like the a Plomb with the paws in a "V" shape. Coarse teeth but what a smooth ratchet!

$20 total.

Now where can I get a kit or just the lever for the the #5 Proto ratchet?

The saltus is 5/8. Don't really need SAE stuff but I do this annoying thing when I ask the price for a group of items and I then I grab something else to close the deal for the same amount of $$. It's annoying when people do it to me, too!

Garage sales around here never have any good stuff.

Just asking, are you out hitting the garage sales before 0700 every Friday and Saturday? There's no good stuff left "around here" because guys like glenmore have been there and gone before most of us get that first cup of coffee.

Nice!!! I'll give you the cursory, "*******, *******, you ****" rant which on this board is a huge badge of honor. But, very nice indeed especially for a couple of sawbux.

I forgot to mention, be careful what types of lubricant you use. I mistakenly put some really really sticky grease in there, and it almost seemed to turn into on of those gearless ratchets. Users did not like not being able to hear/feel ANY clicking.

Exactly!!! So I go to the other sale, but I'm still thinking, boy that was a pretty good price. He had a lot of stuff and I did go thru it pretty quickly. So I head back less than an hour later and I'm looking thru his table again and EVERY pro tool is gone, only chinese junk left. Seller sees me and says "Oh, some guy came by and gave me $400 for everything".:shocking:

Early bird gets the Snap-on!

I waited outside an estate sale Friday morning. Sale opens at 10 and I got there at 5:30 am. Had a table full of Snap-on I was after. I was #7 in the door. Once inside I made a partial wrong turn heading for the garage and the guy behind me snaked ahead and scooped the main prize; complete set of Snap-on angle wrenches still in their box. I managed to grab some combination wrenches and other stuff but I got beat on thaose angle wrenches!
