I've searched and can't believe I can't find a thread on this.

If threads exist please provide a link...

I need to re-locate my toolboxes from my workshop in my house to my detached garage. There's a lot of humidity in there with 2 cars driving in and out leaving rain water or melting snow all over the place.

I know my black phosphate coated tools will pay the price with rust.

I can and will coat them with some type of oil, but is there anything else I could do?

I'm considering putting a few of these in the box to dehumidify it somewhat

The other consideration might be these;

I might even get both just as long as it's not counter productive like putting a humidifier and dehumidifier in the same room to fight it out*

I've also heard of wiring a few incandescent bulbs into the box but that might be a little too cumbersome and pimp-tastic.

I use a product called Damp-Rid in the cabin of my boat during the offseason.

It works well and the boat does not smell like mold etc.

You can buy it in several different sizes from Home Depot.

Some tricks I have learned:

Head to the pharmacist, or go online and buy some camphor (the stuff that smells in Vicks vaporube) blocks. One a drawer was what I was told should be plenty. (do price shopping, my pharmacist was reasonable the last time I checked, but prices online were all over the place)

I was told, that over time it provides a wax type of coating, so anything that doesn't get used in a way it will slip, you might even decide to use a waxed (left over car waxing ) rag.
Look at some of the woodworking metal blade/tablesaw cleaners like Boeshield.

I have heard that a light does help. You might try something like leaving an old style drop light on by your toolbox.

I receive a lot of new electronics at work. I always save the dessicant packs and throw them in the toolbox drawers.
