Does anyone know how to disassemble the Prevost S1 air couplers. These are pretty expensive so I would like to rebuild it.

not familiar with them, but the others unscrew . does the outer shell retract so you can wrench on the ends ? some of the M series I have taken apart are threadlocked and a bit of heat helps to break them

I cant find anything that unscrews. I was able to spin the black housing but it doesn't unscrew. It just spins.

I'm sorry can't be of any help. I have not needed to disassemble one yet. Like others have mentioned though, I would think the outer shell would either unscrew or pull back to allow access to the main body for disassembly, but that's just a guess.

If it works like the Husky clones, the silver face unscrews from the body. On mine (Husky), there are a pair of notches on it that I can grab with needle nose pliers and twist.

Slide Back the Outer Sleeve​


The composite safety sleeve should slide fully rearward. Prevost’s industrial S1 design uses a one-push mechanism with an outer sleeve that vents line pressure before release

Locate & Remove the Retaining Ring


As you hold the sleeve back, you’ll find an internal snap or retaining ring at the collar’s base. Use snap‑ring pliers or picks to remove it similar to many industrial quick couplers.

Extract Internal Valve Assembly


With the ring removed, the spring assist, valve body, locking balls (or mechanism), and internal seals can be slid out.

Exercise caution: the spring is compressed and may eject components suddenly.

Inspect Seals, Springs & Components


O‑rings: Check for cracking, tearing, or compression distortion. Prevost’s coupler relies on an O‑ring for the external seal, plus a valve seal for airtight performance
Locking mechanism: Examine balls or segments, their seating, and spring integrity.

Clean & Replace Seals


Clean all parts
Replace O‑rings with matching Viton or Buna-N. Although Prevost doesn’t sell official rebuild kits, source high-grade replacement seals

Reassembly


Reinsert internal valve assembly with new seals and spring intact.
Reinstall the snap ring firmly into its groove.
Slide the outer sleeve forward to capture the internals.
Cycle the sleeve to verify smooth operation.
Pressurize briefly and test for leaks.

Well I'm back I tried hammering the black sleeve back with a socket and hammer and it wont budge. It has now become a sacrificial coupler that I will cut open and do an autopsy on. Unfortunately since trying to drive it back I misplaced it so the autopsy will have to wait.

OK destructiv3e disassembly shows that these couplers are not serviceable. They are assembled at the factory with a press in and never take out. The metal parts on each end have a taper to allow them to be assembled but once the plastic housing slides over the end of the taper there is no non-destructive means of disassembly. But the good news is, while there have a list price of ~$60 they can be found for ~$25 with some searching. They also are very good. That's the first time one leaked on my in 10 years and it was ******* off a hose that has been in storage for 3 years.

Thanks for the information. I've only been using the Prevost hi-flow couplers and plugs for about 3 years now so hopefully they still have a very long life remaining. Prior I was using the Milton V-series hi-flow but in my opinion there is no comparison between the Prevost and the Miltons.

Just thought I'd add for the group. I ordered these ¾" hydraulic fitting covers off of Amazon. They fit perfectly to prevent Mud Daubers or other critters from building nests and plugging up the outlet.
