Got a price quote from Radilant in Vt. inside mearsure 31 x 39 feet. Pole barn. They want me to use 7/8 xl pex,4 loop at 250 feet per loop. I told them i just wanted the pex tuping and a manifold, I was thinking 4 runs of 1/2 in. 300 feet long.I also asked for a lay out that did not happen. Anyway the whole deal with a takagi t-h3j-dv direct vent on demand water heater came to $3,875.70 .pLUS SHIPPING TO Ont Can. I am wondering why 7/8 and why ony cover 1000 sq feet. Comments?? Larry

When I was looking at new threads and I saw this one, at first glance I thought it said, "Price QUOTE FOR ***" and I wondered just what this thread was about.

More detail. How many doors, what is the thickness of the cement, rebar or mesh or nothing? Not everybody, but most people use the rule of thumb 1/2" pex placed One Foot On Center. In your case that would be approximately 1200' of pex. You can use a free (for a month) program to lay out your design. If you have a basic square
building with no obstacles, you could even use graph paper to lay out your pex.

Bottom line, these guys are kind of high for just pex. Many places on the net that will get a better price. When I was getting quotes I had a few who wanted to sell me 7/8" and I had to ask specifically for 1/2".

Just my 2 cents.

Larry, I used LoopCAD that was suggested by MScott. You get to use it free for 30 days. Your set up is easy, so it shouldn't be that hard to figure out.
Also I was thinking about your situation some yesterday and thought 5 loops will be better. All around 250', and it gives you some play. I got my stuff from http://www.blueridgecompany.com/, and they will do a generic layout for free if you order supplies from them. I looked at 5, 300' spools of pex and a 5 port manifold and it came in at $625. W-a-y less then $3800 those other guys wanted.

There a many people here who can help you lay things out. Don't be afraid to ask.

There is no light commercial building in N.America that would require 7/8" PEX tubing. Try to stay away from gimmicks and DIY design, neither will serve you well in the end. If you must by from an on-line vendor try to find one in the main stream with CAD drawings and ACCA Manual 'J' heat loads specific to radiant floor.

Another red haring is the use of a tankless water heater for space heating. More especially when it has an output is nearly 10x that required by your building, modulating output notwithstanding.
