I've been looking around for used water-cooled Syncrowave 250 and I couldn't find one that is less than 2,000. Shouldn't they be in 800-1,500 range, including gun and pedal?
Thoughts?

And I don't get it why syncrowave 300 is cheaper than 250, a lot used ones are about $1,000 less, on average. Should I bump up for a 300?

Suggestions are welcome. Somebody suggested that since I want to do mig, stick and tig, I should look into getting XMT 304 because it's much cheaper than buying both millermatic 251/252 and syncrowave 250. I just found out that only thing XMT 304 can't do is aluminum tig (TIG DC only). I want to be able to TIG aluminum too.

What are you working on that's so huge you need that big of a machine?

Diversion 180s are good AC/DC machines. For that price range, could you swing a little more for a Syncrowave 210? Those are studs.

Depending on the vintage, codition and accessories. They hover in the ~$1500 range, basic accessories.

The 250's are more desirable over the 300's due to size and input power requirements. A 250 is at the upper end of a home users limit. The 300 is beyond most home users resources.

I'll add this, multiprocess machines, like the XMT, for a home or hobby use are a very very poor choice. Just because someones uses one at work doesn't mean it is good for the small operation guys.

I just saw the multi-process part. You can get an affordable machine that will spoolgun aluminum and do the other 2. If you insist on TIG aluminum, you're obv looking at more expensive.

The lincoln powermig 210MP will be a grand, 110/220, good duty cycle, MIG/TIG/Stick but aluminum will be through a spoolgun only

The water cooler ads about $500 to the price of a good used TIG welder. Last year I bought an older, used Lincoln Square Wave 355 TIG welder. I paid about $2000 for it. It is a beast, weighing about 510 Lbs. I am sure this welder will out live me. I only have an air cooled torch, but that is good enough for my home/hobby use. The basic difference is the air cooled torch has a shorter duty cycle. I have owned my MIG welder for years. The MIG takes very little skill to operate. The TIG is a whole other ball game. TIG welding aluminum takes some practice for sure. You will have fun with the TIG machine when you get it.

You're right. Forget the 300, I just realized it's too big for my need.

If you can justify the power input and space requirement, then find one cheap and go for it.

Depending on your budget, you might want to consider the dynasty series. Also look for older Hobart Tig Wave and lincoln square wave tig machines. They are in the same class as the syncro 250's.
