I just looked up the receipts for the building I built for my wife and I have $7300 in it. It's a 20'x20' drywalled and insulated. Cedar siding, 8 windows, and door. I contracted out the concrete and drywall finishing and the rest was done by me and a friend.

That's utter insanity.

A 24x30 pre-fabbed garage by Tuff Shed is only 12K installed. Budgeting high at 8k for concrete, and you're still only at 20k.

In my area that quote doesn't seem too far off, and I'd say that we're near the median for home values nationwide (though we haven't had the drop in prices that many places have had).
