Should hold up fine by itself, it won't be as strong as the completed system, but keep that in mind and it will be ready come next spring. Prep now as if you were doing the entire system, clean, repair any cracks etc, profile by etching or grinding, then prime.
Next year when you're ready to apply the top coat scuff up the existing prime coat (sander, floor buffer with screen) then wipe down with denatured alcohol right before over coating.
