Priming before using the Majik hardener in the Rustoleum paint.

I'm going to start cleaning up my frame in prep for paint. I'm figure that I'll get most of the rust off. But depending upon how much is left,... because I know that there will be some pitting... I will either use the standard or rusty metal primer. That being said. For those that have used the Majik hardener in the Rustoleum... How long did you let the primers set up? Did you let them fully cure? I believe that Rustoleum says that they take 30-45 days to completely gas out. So I would assume that you would need to wait that period before hitting it with a catalyzed paint/topcoat.

Interestingly enough... I have seen an Eastwood video on them using their rust encapsulator paint, followed (the next day) with their 2k chasis paint. I know that it's a different product, but I might give them a call to question that.

Thanks,

Mark

P.S. I know that the hardener topic has been covered. However, I didn't see anything mentioned about the primer topic. I did read all of the posts too! :)

To be clear, you are using the hardener in the paint only correct? Brushing or spraying the primer and paint? If spraying, I’d use a catalyzed epoxy primer and go by the TDS. You would have a spray window to paint over that. It’s always best to check with the Manufacturer if you have questions.

Yes, I'm only adding the hardener to the paint. ...which I plan to roll on the primer and the paint. I could spray it, but I really don't want to set up a booth or curtains, just for a frame paint.

Remember when mixing the hardener in that it will accelerate the drying time. The paint could harden before you get it on. Mix smallish batches until you see how quickly it dries.
