HI

I was at a "grand opening" of a new princess auto this past weekend. I was looking at air tools, primarily air ratchets. Anyway, as this was a big day for them the staff was particularly attentive. A female employee who said she worked in another part of the store was asking me questions about the ratchets I was looking at. She said that she really didn't know too much about them. Anyway, I asked about replacement parts for the various tools and she told me, and confirmed with the tool department supervisor, that all the princess auto air tools have lifetime warranty. Now we all know that this means they don't do any testing on the stuff and just sell away but...

I don't use a 3/8 air ratchet every day, maybe not every week even. I'm considering the princess auto stuff again. Granted, if it's Sunday morning and something breaks it's because it's poorer quality than the brand name and you're screwed until you return to the store for your "lifetime warranty" return.

Anybody use the princess auto air stuff?

I don't think anybody gives lifetime warranty on any air tools or power tools. Hand tools are a different story. The only lifetime servicing I know for power tools are sold by Home Depot for their Ridgid power tools and it's just for lifetime servicing such as replacing brushes on their motors, etc. There is a name for a company that offers lifetime warranty for their power tools, They're called "Bankrupted"

Believe it or not, this is the case. "Keep your bill and if the item is no longer made we will provide a comparable air tool". I have just talked to Princess Auto customer service. Call them if you like. 1-800-665-8685.

My original question though, does anyone use these air tools??

yup, pretty junky stuff. That said I do own their 1/2 drill and a butterfly rachet. The return policy is great but the tools do ****. Not much power and poor efficiency.

I think I have seen this concept before. Poor enough quality that guys who buy good tools do not take it in, they just get something better. So minimal service there. The others who buy them do not use them enough to know better and not enough to require service. For the few that do there is always some other issue. Since it is an air tool I have seen where not oiling it was considered abuse and 10 years of no use not oiled sent the person out without a replacement. The big service issue is those that are broken in the box or break within the first few uses. Believe it or not for a number of users much beyond the first use never comes.

New guy here. I've been doing a lot of reading here but this is my first post.

Got a laugh out of the 'Princess' Auto comment. I haven't seen any tinkerbells in the store yet. I'll let you know if I do though.

Piper.. are you aka "Pipe" from the Ottawa area?
