Well pro point is their top line. And their impact sockets have been stellar, which are grey pneumatic or sunnex rebrand cro-mo Taiwan. It will be interesting to see what rebranding the chrome sockets are. From the shape of the taper, they "look" like blue-point/Williams Taiwan.

We'll have to see.

Really? Now if only they went on sale often.......

And I think I will pick up the 1/4" set, looks to be pretty comprehensive?

I am intrigued by the SPG 56" Value series (SPG calls it Tech series now). The problem is that there is no place you can actually see one and gauge the quality. Are the drawer edges rolled? Any other comments you can make on the quality would be appreciated. The other option is a quick trip to Buffalo for a HF 56" but after exchange, taxes etc., you're looking at $1700.

I was in the Markham store (Woodbine & Hwy 7) yesterday, they had one out on display. I think it was only the 42" version, but it should give you an idea of what the larger one would be like. I've looked at them previously, and was not impressed.

I have seen the 42" at PA and I agree with you.....not overly impressive. Thin metal and the drawer edges are not even folded. I was hoping that the 56" that is sold at Costco or HD was better quality. If I could just see one in person before committing .....or I bite the bullet and head to the HF in Buffalo for their 56".

If you get it from Costco, you need to return it to the store yourself for fast refund (550 lbs). If you let them pick it up, you wait three weeks for your refund.

I agree with the Costco return policy but man that is a huge PITA.......
Someone has to have one of these on display somewhere.

I was in the Mississauga store today. And what did I see?

It's on Dixie Road at Midway. That's about 2 km south of the 407.

Found a 168 tooth ratchet with no tags on it priced at $5
This thing is so sensitive to the slightest turns
Took it apart dual pawl each with 15teeth so 30 teeth at any given moment
30/168=18% engaged not bad great for those tight spots

Also got the 1/2 impact extension set for 35 pretty well made

And got a 3/8x50ft hybrid air hose for 20$

I was in PA last week and I took a second look at their 42" SPG box they had in store. It's branded International (I know they also had the Propoint box in there which I didn't really look at) but the fit and finish feels a little different from the box I have. It could just be in my head, but it just doesn't seem like the same box.

I know that it doesn't have a traditionally advertised top box on it at least compared to the International Catalogue, which shows a second bank of 12" (or 13") drawers, rather than that stupid locker door that the PA floor model had.

In terms of the box that I do have, all the drawers have a v bend bent into the leading edge for rigidity, which isn't much different from my craftsman box. I don't necessarily have any of the wider drawers weighed down in a huge way, but everything rolls nicely for me. As I'm pretty sure I stated before, the full width socket drawer needs to be pulled out from the center or with two hands as it sometimes will bind a tad, which is about my only complaint. I'm not 100% sure if doubling up the slides would solve that or not.

I have seen a couple of these boxes in local shops (or at least International branded boxes). At the municipal shop (I'm up there every Monday) they have a 42" that has been abused. very rarely are all the drawers closed fully, etc. It looks rough, but it's been functional anytime I've needed to grab anything out of it.

Local gas station also has one or two in their shop, though I have not been into those boxes so i cannot attest to their sturdiness (they have been slightly abused as well if I recall).

Saw my local PA in Alberta is carrying Wilton brand vises now. 3 different models, 4.5, 6 and a ATV model. Choked a bit when I saw $899 on the tag for the 6 in Bullet.

So I went out to have a look at these boxes. The Pro Point is definitely made by International. Both boxes have the same construction. Rolled drawer edges, reinforcement folds are the same on both. Without actually taking a mic to measure the metal gauge, I would say both are the same. The ONLY difference I could see (besides size, drawer layout, etc.) , was the the Pro point has a hammered paint finish. They were just OK. Not bad for homeowner use. I now wonder if the International 'Tech' series are constructed similarly. Oh , the depth of the PA boxes are 18" deep vs. The ' Tech' series which are 24".

I was back at that store again today, and I had a closer look. Both that and the 42" one seem to have wheels that are too soft. They rock back and forth when you put a load on them. At first I thought it was the platform they're on, but all the motion seems to come from the wheels flexing. There was the fancy Kubota box on the same platform that did not suffer from that effect.

They don't measure up to my Beach made Craftsman boxes from the early '90s...

I try to use cromo sockets only if i have to use an impacting driver otherwise CRv are much smoother to take on and off fasteners and ratchets and easier to see than matt black

Seems like a good kit if you have a 1/4 driver

When you work on the road like I do a lot packing less weight is important. For example my 1/2" drive is only impact sockets (no need for chrome when your trying to reduce weight and mass) but at home or if your blessed to work next to or near your box and all your tools, then I agree anything power driven should be impact and chrome on ratchets.

I'll use a black socket if it's the right size in my cart, if it saves me walking 5 feet to my box. Extra steps waste time and energy.

Depends if your paid hourly or by the job, I'm an Industrial Mechanic (millwright) so I pretty much never get to work near my box lol. I usually fill a bag with what I need then climb up the grain elevator and work.

Yeah, this little set sure saves time being as complete in sizes, and organized in the case.

Imported some Titan ratchet adapters from them, those are hard to find (and cost much less than the Protos, well I ordered one of those too, it's a little heaftier, though not as versatile). Pretty cool tool, even has a hex head to turn more than just a socket wrench into a ratchet. Oddly enough I transport some Titan freight up there, so I wonder if that's something I exported on a pallet only to order it from far away. :headscrat
