Anyone know how PA clearance pricing works? I know the prices end with a 3, but does it go beyond that (like Home Depot in the USA). Like .63 or .23 or .03....does .63 mean it just went on clearance, another number "3" means it has been lowered once again and .03 is last price lowring before being removed from stock. Or is their some other scheme to their pricing.

Also, not pricing but inventory. They have gone through web changes in the past 2 years; do the still show "in stock as long as the have more than qty 8, and qty 8 or less they show what the qty is?

I dont know that they change their numbers much. I've seen lots of things over the years that just suddenly go out of stock.

I never have seemed to have an issue. Even down to one left. Just got to pop in and ask.
I don't live too close to a PA, about an hour and 15 minute drive, so I purchase almost always online....and that is what I am referring to. Before they changed there website a couple of years ago, anything over 8, it would just say in stock online. If it was less than 8, then they would show the actual quantity, like 4 in stock online.

I was just wondering if that is still the same.

I rarely visit an actual store because its over a half day wasted with the travel. If it shows stock online, 98+% chance it comes in my order.

I think I got stiffed on a brass 1/4" npt fitting once. I reckon they miscounted their inventory.

My main question was about clearance pricing.

A while back, maybe a couple of years ago, a couple of GJ members that had worked at Home Depot explained their clearance or liquidation pricing. Based on the last 2 digits in the pricing, the "cents" value, you could know that it was just put on liquidation, it had a price revisal, or that this is the last price you will see because next time it is taken of the shelves, and it goes....somewhere(?).

Did someone once post something similar concerning PA's clearance pricing? I know that anything on clearance ends in a "3"....like $17.63. What I do not know if prices ending in .03 or .63, or .23 are just haphazard or if there is a code to their pricing....like "just put on clearance" or "buy it now or it's gone" kind of thing.

Anyone know?

I don’t know, but from what I’ve observed -

Definitely numbers ending in 1 or 3 means clearance. But I’ve seen clearance items at **.03, **.23, **.01 - (maybe also 22?) - best as I can tell it’s just a percentage off, then rounded to 1 or 3. Not sure if 1 vs 3 designates anything.

I don’t see much logic or fixed timing for progressive discounts. I’ve seen some stuff stuck around a long time, others drop sharply, others have a few progressions.

As a rule, if I see it on clearance and I’m okay with the price, I buy it. If it’s more than I want to pay, I watch how quickly the stock drops. If it is slow, then watch closely, as it will probably have a sudden price drop and sell out quickly.

I know, nothing kills a day more than having to go out and get something.

Pretty much everything you said is how I see it. And I am not sure that 1 or 3 do have a designation, I might be mixed up with the HD posts. Anyway, if there is anything to it, someone will chime in.
