Even regular termites will eat it slowly. Carpenter ants will also destroy it.

man that *****... what do you do then, poison the ground on a regular basis? You know what *****? Awesome animals like the dodo, condor etc become extinct while critters like termites, mosquitoes and ticks are thriving... It would be nice if one day someone found a way to exterminate them permanently. Surely one could argue that termites are "needed" for a healthy ecosystem but I don't buy it. Think about how many trees must be cut down for lumber to 'repair' the structures that termites have destroyed. I'm talking entire forests worth... I say make them extinct asap as soon as scientists can figure out how

they are needed in nature to break down fallen trees. this returns it to the cycle of life by fertilizing the ground for new growth. for some reason, i don't think lumber and houses fall into that cycle.

In Texas, I butted my cedar pickets right next to each other. 1 summer later and there's a perfect gap now.

It depends on whether they are wet or dry when installed.

Wood will break down without termites. It is called rot.

Im on a corner lot and on the side that faces the street I used a 1/4 piece of osb to space my cedar pickets. Every where else I butted them tight. It was late fall and the lumber was still wet even after drying for a few days in my garage. I even broke the pile up and placed them vertical.

Now some might asked why I did this?

Ive got a boxer that loves to people watch.....and dig. So far I have no holes in the back yard because she can see out, while still maintaining quite a bit of privacy. I should of done it on the neighbors side also but I may just cut a few holes on that side so shes not tempted to dig over there next spring

Oh, another thing to add. I dug my holes to around 32", added a couple shovels of gravel to the bottom for drainage. Make the holes wider at the bottom than at the top. When you do concrete, make sure it slopes away from the post, usually easiest to just use your hands.

I used an 8" auger....that was dumb, go 12". Even though my holes were all in line with each other, their distances apart were a little off. For the most part this wasnt a problem because I planned on spacing at 7.5'. 12" holes would of made the whole project go a little quicker also.
