Only mildly tool related, but thought might be of interest.

Got this in an estate lot, only person know of that might have some knowledge of it is Private Lugnutz.

Anybody collect this sort of thing?

You crack me up, Boog! :)

Yes, these data plates or tags would be interesting to anyone with a 1 Ton Baker trailer commonly known as a "Ben Hur," commonly towed behind a 2.5 Ton 6 x 6 CCKW truck, commonly known after the war as a "Duece and a Half".

But, they look like reproductions. Too pretty, too perfect, and no data stamped in them. Big market in the MVPA crowd because of how many surviving vehicles were stripped of them or lost. Not cheap. Not exorbitant, either.

If you wanted to flip them I could point you to a perfect niche market. PM me if so.

This is pretty undoubtably original, due to the quality of the construction and the circumstances of it's acquisition.... Sent a PM to Mr. Lugnutz.

If so, it's the most mint-y data plate, any vehicle, that I have ever seen, and, it would mean it was never issued. That's a bit of a strange hybrid case. Same market, but smaller demand. In short, most guys want original used plates. So many vehicles are un-original mongrels with mixed numbers (engine bosses, chassis stamps, etc) that they're not worried about matching, it's the used look of the plate. Or vice versa, they've done a perfect factory repro and want perfect blank plates, which are usually repro. So it's an interesting case, if original.

If you don't want to share the mysterious circumstances with everyone, why did you start a thread instead of just sending a PM in the first place?

No mystery city, it says it right on the plate. They were made in Baker Oregon. That's a town near me, a couple hours or so out of Boise, Idaho.

Not trying to be mysterious, just wanted to not throw this out if it was desirable to someone. I don't understand collectors very well, and I've seen here mr Lugnutz collects military hardware, and is quite knowledgeable. I scrap a lot of crud that guys on here drool over, because it's not worth postage and a few dollars. I was just trying to see if this was in that category, and should go in the aluminum recylcle or not. Hate scrapping things that someone genuinely collects and wants. At least old stuff that once gone, is gone. Have no qualms scrapping cheap current stuff that's just not worth postage and effort.
