Pro Com Wall Mount Heater

Does anyone have experience with a Pro Com wall heater? A buddy of mine just had one installed in his 20' x 20' garage and I have to say it seems pretty good. He has it hooked up to NG and keeps the garage at 50 degrees. He can't remember where he bought but a search showed it can be purchased at Northern Tool for about $225. It say's it will heat a 1,000 sqft. space.

Any opinions?

Perhaps post a link or describe the heater. I think what you are describing is a ventless propane heater which is a bad idea for a few reasons. The big ones are moisture generation and pumping poison gas into the space.

As mentioned, stay away from vent free if possible. Not bad If NG you shouldn't have too much problem with moisture but propane's another story. Must be used with a fresh air source. Spend the extra money and go with a vented unit.

Actually, regardless of fuel type the moisture content for lp, ng and oil are very close. There is approx 1 gal of water vapor per gal of lp, therm of ng and gal of oil.

The issue with vent free, whether in a home or shop, is that whatever you have chemical wise that is air-borne will be cycled thru the burner and likely come out smelling worse than it went in. As well it is imperative that the burner, or plaques in an infra-red be kept clean. to test the odor theory, pop the top off a can of paint or use some aerosol as in hair spray and you will quickly see what I mean.

He actually has it hook up through NG. It is also vent free. He usually cracks a window. As far as I can remember, I have never noticed any kind of odor or build up?

We usually sit in his garage on Friday nights in the winter for a few hours drinking beer. Once in awhile he will open the garage door to let some of the cold air in because it gets a little warm. I'm sure when the time comes, I'll heed everyone's advise when it comes to garage heaters. I would like something I can run all winter long at about 50 degree's. I have a neighbor down the street who is a HVAC contractor I'll probably ask or install. Actually, he has been in this garage several times and has never mentioned anything about this heater set up.
