Never used one myself, but I can think of a few days I may have if I had one available... I typically just get them off with whatever fits when the chinesium caps are marred enough to be a problem.

Nope. I beat a socket on or air chisel them off. If your nuts are that dicked up you're buying new ones or I won't work on your car. We have sent potential customers down the road over this issue.

That's a damn good idea. I hate when those POS chrome covers get fobarred.

I've seriously considered getting one. But my 19mm socket is starting to get worn out so that helps the issue a whole lot with lug nuts. It used to be a daily occurrence that I would have to smack my sockets with a hammer on all 20 lug nuts. I still might get one. It's really annoying. Don't know why manufacturers are still using that

I always yanked those stupid caps off with pliers and threw them away to reveal perfectly good 18mm or 20mm lugnuts underneath. Customer can buy new lugnuts if they have a problem with it. By the way, not a single customer ever noticed the caps were missing or said anything about it.

With those stainless capped lug nuts I use a sacrificial flat blade screwdriver, punch a hole in the end of the cap, then peel the cap completely off. Then use an impact socket 1mm smaller than the nominal size of the nut to remove the rest of the nut. Replace lug nut with chrome plated one piece nut.

Which reminds me, I still have one like that on my Jeep that hasn't been replaced as I used up all my "stash" as the caps keep progressively failing, and for some reason Pep Boys seems to be completely unable to order the nuts I need (McGard 64010). Gotta remember to put that on my Amazon wish list next time I need some filler.

I work at a ford dealer and use it all the time. It works great, but if the lug nut is swollen really bad I might need to use a 20mm. It doesn't remove all the frustration, and will sometimes stick on the lug nut still, but 80% of the time it works great.
I wish I could have found a 19/19.5mm flip socket though. I stead of 18.5/19.5

I always went 1 size bigger when cap puffed up . and 1 size smaller when cap gone.

also crack them loose by hand with a long handle ratchet also so you can feel if there going to spin round .

It's a daily occurrence, but what put me over the top was four vehicles in a row. Ain't nobody got time for that.

I bought a 20mm socket, but I found that it's just a touch too big and I was making a bad problem worse.

I just use my Kobalt sockets because they fit so loose it's like an 18.5 and 19.5 socket. :lol_hitti
It's funny that you mention that. About the third vehicle in a row, I seriously thought about buying a 19mm Harbor Freight impact socket. I thought the fit might be loose enough to work. :lol_hitti

I hear ya'. .2 ain't much for a rotate and I don't want to be futzing around fighting distorted caps. A 19/19.5 flip is a great idea!

We don't get paid for rotates. If your lug nuts are screwed up I'm not messing with it unless you're going to pay for it

I usually use a cheaper 19 or 21mm basic socket with flat sides like craftsman seem to fit better than the off corner engagement like higher quality sockets
Like a flank drive vs conventional hex bolster on wrenches
