Hello,
I have a tank mounted radiant double heater in my shop for auxiliary heat.
Last year it worked fine, but now after it runs a while, it makes a screeching sound and there is a blue flame coming up out of the noisy side.
I can turn it off and let it cool and then it works ok for a while.
While searching for this problem, nothing showed up.
Thanks for your help.
Jack

Could be the tank is overfilled by whoever filled it last, or regulator problem.

with you saying after it runs for a bit then does it, sounds like over pressure after getting hot.

where exactly is this "noisy" part that you trying to explain?

It was filled by the same place. It's a 100 pound tank. They always fill it until the liquid come out the overflow and then shut it off.
This tank has already been ran for 10+ hours.

The regulator is built in to the hi-med-low valve.
When it screeches, the radiant disc stops glowing and a weak-blue flame come out the top of the radiant disc reflector.

As for the time it usually does it after it has ran for only 2 or 3 minutes.

if its a 100# tank then you need to not be using that tank inside.

And they need to legally fill it with weighing the tank not using the bleeder valve.

If it has a multivalve and they fill it with a truck then its a different story.

It still sounds like it has a regulator issue and possible oxygen problem. you could try cleaning it out with air. but lightly.

Again, very very unsafe using 100# tank with that mounted on top inside a building.

yes you have done it for years, it only takes one time for the tank to let off pressure and BOOM
