Problem: Wet Around The Crack

I'm getting ready to coat my new garage floor with the Rust-oleum stuff. Yesterday, I washed the floor and then did the acid etching and let it dry to put the coating down today. Well, this morning, I go out to find that the floor appears dry except for around a small crack that goes from front to back. Is this normal?

I'm guessing that the crack filled with water and will need a bit more time to dry out.

By reading your title "Problem: Wet Around The Crack" my first thought was that you you had Diarrhea..

You my friend, might possible have a water leak under your slab...

Did it dry when you washed it? When flooding a slab with a crack, the crack will be the last area to dry. I might suggest you treat this crack before applying your epoxy. Also, what Tampa stated might very well hold true. gene ec-Indy

What should I use?

We normally use the epoxy. There are specific epoxy or urethane crack fillers but I just use whatever I'm applying to the floor. Here's the short version.

Use a crack chaser to open up the crack. this is a V shaped diamond blade. You can use a cheap 4" regular diamond blade and angle it on both sides. Once cut, vacuum real good and use denatured alcohol as water to clean it. Let dry. (this helps pull any moisture out of the crack). Mix a small amount of epoxy and pour it into the crack. Mix another small batch and mix silica sand with it to make a paste and use a margin trowel to push into the crack. Over fill it a little because once dry, you will be grinding it smooth with the concrete. You're ready to go from there. gene ec-Indy

By all means,fill it! All wet cracks should be properly filled!
