Problem with Single Post Lift

I have an inground single post lift that all of the sudden now does not want to go all the way down in the lowered position.

It has been working fine for several years. Just recently it seems to hit a positive stop when bringing it down to the lowered position.

It stops about 2-3 inches before it should. the lift works just fine otherwise.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Something could be stuck in the guide post hole. The gas station I use to work at had single post hoist and the same thing would happen to them. But in their case it was usually muck in the bottom of the pipe from frequent floor washings.

I'm going to look at that tomorrow. Any ideas on how to get the muck out?

I'm thinking pvc pipe on the end of a shop vac hose?

All good suggestions , Tighten seal retainer bolts, clean out junk around seal, check for junk jammed into seal, lube post well (w-d spray). Good Luck

We use to use a garden hose and flush it out with water. But we had floor drains to get rid of the muck and water.

Removed the guide post over the weekend and the lift goes all the way down.
Looks like there might be some rot at the bottom of the tube the guide post goes into.
Didn't have much luck getting the muck/debris out of the pipe.
The guide tube is about 18" longer than it has to be so tonight I'm cutting 5' off the bottom of it.

Thanks for all the advice.
