Problem with snap on ratchet wrenches

I’ve had to warranty a few of my snap on ratcheting wrenches I’ve had for a few years. The problem is all the new warranties ones I get (there’s been a couple of the same sozes) are all really hard to ratchet to the point where I have to break them free on a nut to get them moving again. Idk if this new style is just like this until you use it a lot, before the ratchet heads were thicker, but this new thinner style head is giving me issues.

Has anyone else had this issue?

All my new ones are insanely smooth, I'd say the lowest backdrag of any I've ever used. They are serviceable, pop the cover off and try some lube if that doesn't do it try shortening the spring

I'll second this. All of the new ones I've gotten are the smoothest things I've ever felt. Like unbelievably smooth.

I have found with mine if they get a little funky from the oil soaked sand I work in everyday, a quick spray of PB air tool spray smooth them right up.

I had issues with chrome peeling off my set of non ratcheting wrenches. I think it was just excess chrome from the chroming process.

I have a set of SK X Drive wrenches, but going to buy a set of these soon, also. I hope they hold up well.

I had the same issue with these ratchet wrenches when I first bought them. The few I have warrantied have been worse for high drag in the ratchet mechanism. I have since taken all of mine and broken them all in with a bolt in a cordless drill. I ran all of them on low speed with my cordless drill for about 20 seconds in both directions. No more issues with any of them.

I agree. I am still building my set. I finished the JIS sizes now it's ISO time.

Some were smooth out of the box. Others felt a little rough. I put them on a hex bit socket and spun them back and forth for a while. Now they all feel very nice. I have a bunch of ratcheting wrenches including Carlyle, Capri, Gearwrench and Tekton. Nothing comes close to how smooth these feel even the 100 tooth Capri.

Open them up and lube them a bit + spin them with a drill as mentioned (Low torque on the clutch).

If that doesn't solve it then ask the snap-on man to warranty them ,i wouldn't bother with cutting springs etc.. if you don't have to.

Yeah I’ve asked him to warranty quite a few for this reason. The drill seemed to
Help although I used it on high speed lol

Hello I have several in my box but use the 3/8 often. The newest one I have the on /off lever partially broke leaving a sharp edge. That’s disturbing because I was going to have my older Original one repaired but changed my mind and traded in for the new one. I think the guts needed to be changed but it lasted a long time. It appears the new on/off lever made from aluminum casting. Weak point. When I brought it to the attention of Snapon guy he just gave me a new one cause he didn’t have the repair part/s.

On the new ones the lever is recessed, also not made out of the cheap **** like the old ones. The new reversibles are in my opinion the best quality ratchet wrench on the market. Not cheap but worth it. The old ones were ok but chunky. I made a thread on comparing the new style with the old and compared it to 4 or 5 other brands. I found the snap on had the slimmest profile in every way. Plus the lowest backdrag. One or two of mine were a little rough but as mentioned after lube and a little use they're all buttery smooth

How did the lever break?
