I have just brought a table saw

There's a problem with the switch turning it off and on

I took the yellow cover off and found this

The spindle bit is fine but the plastic cover keeping it in place is broken

I'm thinking of replacing the switch

The question is will any 110v switch do :dunno: for the table saw

I was thinking of something like this

Or does it need to be the same manufacture

So basically any switch will do as long as I make sure the volts and Amps match

Match, or are greater. the exact switch you illustrate, from looking at the decal visible on it, is a 35amp, 125V switch. It would work well and be a great switch for this. You might have to mount some sort of new box to mount the new switch on, however.

Start/Stop switches don't always replace regular On/Off switches. Many S/S are momentary, not maintained like an On/Off. Make sure you check.

New stationary table saws come with a magnetic switch... they look like the third picture -- if the power goes off they will not restart without pushing "On" again.

But any switch with the capacity to match the motor will work

The switch pictured is UL recognized, not listed,(it's not the same) & is just cheap Asian junk, a decent magnetic starter or manual one as long as they are a NEMA style is a good reliable choice.

If the poster recognizes the difference between momentary and maintained, he'll be fine as long as the ratings match. As far as Asian junk; one would be pretty hard pressed to avoid these components nowadays--even in Made In USA items.

Something as simple as this, but even this is $60 from Fruitridge tools who are as reasonable as it gets.

VVV Similar but with a pilot light and cheaper. VVV

$43.75 including shipping on a BIN from an Ebay seller.

Same thing but cheaper

This the same, slight variation in part number, I think it is a lower amp or hp rating but $20 plus $8.75 shipping and will take offers. $15 plus shipping will probably get it.

Square D brochure with all the specs on the toggle/snap switch style motor starter units

It isn't all about amps however. Make sure whatever you use is motor rated for the appropriate HP you have. Motors have high inrush current and many switches cannot handle this even though they can handle the running amps of the motor.

The nice thing about the green/red push button is you can hit it with your leg/knee. There is also a pin you can put through the green button to lock out the tool.

A toggle switch on a power tool isn't the best from a safety perspective. There is a reason emergency switches are all push to open.

^This^

In fact, I'd recommend something like this switch to make it easier to shut off in an emergency:

I wouldn't bother paying for the switch with the pilot light unless you can't tell the table saw is running...:lol_hitti

I once bent down to pick something up while wearing earmuffs, placing my hand on the saw table. I thought the saw was off. When I stood up I saw that my had was inches from a spinning blade. :shocking:

My table saw just has a light switch mounted in box on the side. :dunno:

Only a 1hp motor and it has been working fine for 15+ years.
