Problems since new gas meter

The local gas company came out and installed a new meter. Every since the hot water tank isn't producing as much hot water and my heater isn't working. I have the temperature on the tank set as high as it will go. We had company when the meter was put in so I attributed it to too many people using the shower in a row. I have been out of town so I didn't personally notice anything until this morning. It was cold when I got home so I turned on the heat( outside unit) and I have no heat either. I called the gas company and they say it's not thier fault. Seems strange that things were working fine until the new meter was put in. I'm wondering if there's a restriction or something and gas isn't flowing t full strength. I have the HVAC tech coming out tonight/tomorrow morning so I guess we'll see what he says.

It should be easy to check the pressure on your side of the meter. Easy for the gas company to do. Most people don't have the equipment.

It will be interesting to see what the HVAC guy finds. Does the flame on the water heater look like it is burning properly?

I haven't really looked at the pilot on water tank besides verifying it was lut after the meter was replaced.

So how would a receptionist know if it was the gas company's fault or not? of course they need to send someone back to check. For all the receptionist knows your meter could be leaking and filling up the basement with gas.

Recently my meter was changed out. I wasn’t home when they did it. They left a tag on the door for us to call when home so they could unlock the gas valve, gain entry to our house to make sure they could relight any pilot lites we had.... they turned the tank style water heater valve to pilot lite setting and once lite proceeded to turn the gas valve to a Luke warm setting. My point is have you checked the temperature setting on your WH to make sure it is turned up to were you had it originally?

Is the new one the same flow as the old meter?
Why was it switched out?

HVAC is working so that's not part of this now.

The water heater is turned up as far as it goes. Still not producing as much hot as before or recovering as fast. Probably just a coincidence.

"Hi, Gas Company? Ever since you came out and changed the meter I've been smelling gas on occasion, plus the heater doesnt work right"

How long do you think they are out for a free checkup?

Did you reset the gas valve on the furnace? Mine needs to be reset, like a breaker, after an interruption in gas flow, like installing a new meter.
edit. Never mind, just saw its working now.

The water heater kicks on and off due to the t-stat. There's nothing about gas supply pressure that effects how hot the water gets before the water heater shuts off.

Dumb question...but I"m going to ask it anyway...When you say it's turned "all the way up"....which way is the knob turned, all the way to the right, or all the way to the left.

I know on mine....HOT is all the way to the left. WARM is to the right.

As for the suggestion that you tell the gas company you have a leak to get them to come out...No. "There's never a right time to do the wrong thing."
