Problems with my HD9 Bendpak lift UPDATE

I installed this lift about 2 months ago, first problem that I had to get them to fix is an air cylinder for the safety had to be changed.
Now yesterday I notice oil on the ground. The hydraulic cylinder is leaking. Its a good thing I had no car parked underneath it.
I tought when I bought this thing I was buying a good lift. Now I'm starting to doubt myself.
Has anyone enver experienced this leaking cylinder?

My lift is a Titan lift, just installed about 3 weeks ago, oil all over the floor and it appeared to be coming from the cylinder, it was the fitting screwed into the cylinder. Took the hose loose, tightened the fitting an reinstalled the hose. It fixed the leak. Make sure it's not something else before you assume the cylinder.

I always use 'locktite 545 pneumatic/hydraulic' on all NPT hydro fittings like my tractor, lift, etc. I used it on the feed fitting on the hd-9's cylinders I put in too. No leaks. (use NO sealant on AN/JIC hydro fittings tho, only NPT)

Can you post a pic of the drip? Is is coming from the feed fitting or the seal?

Not to be a smart *** but don't you have lift locks? I never go under my lift without the locks engaged.

Yup! Mine started a slow drip as soon as I installed it, maybe 2 drips a day. Not a real problem but annoying! Called Bendpak and they sent a replacement right away. When you call them, they will need the color of the cylinder tag plus the numbers on the tag. Good customer service.

I took his statement to be out of concern for anything leaking on to the car below, not it settling down on something.

The way I imagined the situation was the cylinders are encased in the side posts and oil puddles would form near the base of the posts. I didn't think there'd be much oil dripping onto anything directly under the suspended car. It just sounded to me like maybe the supsended vehicle lowered some. Maybe I'm not seeing it correctly.

It's not a direct lifting cylinder like a 2 post, there is one cylinder under the ramp that pulls four cables around the pulleys that lift each corner. If you were familiar with the bendpaks you'd understand that the input fitting for the cylinder is positioned over where the roof of the car underneath may be positioned, so any drip may land on the car.

OK, I didn't realize the design. Now I see what you're talking about. My mistake.

Like any product there will be some problems. Sounds like it may be a simple cut o-ring on the cylinder. I am not by my lift but I would think the cylinders o-rings are replaceable.
I still feel the company is very responsive to customers needs.

Thanks for all the responses, the oil is dripping from the chrome rod so I suspect its the seal. I am going to take pics tomorrow and post a picture. I didn't wipe anything up before I took pictures. I will also call Bendpak.

I'm glad bobj49 that you finally understood what I meant. Got to admit your first comment had me thinking. Anyhow I bought this lift to store my Challenger and Roadrunner for the winter but I haven't put the Challenger in the back garage yet, its a good thing or I would be even more upset.

Is there an option to have a tray of some sort to prevent any seeping fluid from falling on a vehicle parked under the lift?
I'm considering buying a BP lift, but I sure would hate for hydraulic fluid to drip on my car.

Its almost like you need a drip tray for under the runway, similar idea as the drip tray that goes in between the runways.

Anyhow , I sent the pics to Bendpak, they will be sending be a new cylinder. Hopefully it will be better. I am going to think of a way to put something of tray to catch oil in case it drips again.

I ordered an XW and an ST at the same time about 4 years ago, neither of them drip.

Cable driven ones have it under the ramp.

An update, I sent the photos to Benpak and they are sending me a replacement cylinder. I believe most four posts have cylinders under the rails. I will watch the next one very closely but I will put something there just in case. I don't want oil on my car cover on the bottom car.

An Update on this issue

Bendpak replaced my cylinder today and along with it came a rubber boot for the end of the cylinder. This boot will catch any leaks in the future. Don't know if this is a good thing or not. Now I don't see if the seal is faulty until the boot is full of oil, on the other hand it is a good way to ensure no oil falls on the lower car. Sorry, I don't have a pic right now.
