If there is a thread on this i have not seen it. I bought urrea ratchet kits for proto 5449 and they worked great. So i bought a set of torx sockets and the first one i used was a T45 with a mac 3/8 ratchet and i broke the socket. I got mad and called urrea the lady would not ever give me an answer to see if they would warrenty it or not. So would call everyday and she started getting mad. All i wanted was an answer. Finally days later a young man helped me and told me that the torx sockets are made in taiwan .. The only way they might warrenty it was if i sent the whole set in and then they would decide if i over torqued it or not. He talked like they would not warrenty it. So i replaced it with a matco. Has anyone have luck like this or better luck with urrea tools ???

Haven't had that exact problem but have had issues with Urrea quality as of late. I have used and owned earlier Urrea tools in the past without issue, quality wise they were just as good as my Proto tools. I saw that Homedepot carries Urrea and decided to buy several sets to keep in my truck. They looked like Proto on the website but when I got them in, they were not the quality of my older Urrea and Proto tools. I could take the
1/4" combo wrench and bend it easily with my hands. Plus the finish was inconsistent on all of the wrenches it was especially bad on the black oxide sets. I returned all of them the next day. Urrea used to be top notch but it seems that they have gone down in quality.

Did Urrea by any chance do a "Stanley". By this I mean did someone buy the company for the name, and then either cheapen the quality, or simply import inexpensive tools from elsewhere with the Urrea name on them.

Urrea was older Proto styled stuff exclusively up to the HD deal getting signed. Then they must have realized they couldn't meet deadlines and outsourced to their Pretul line Asain OEM stuff with the Urrea name on it. They already had the contract in place it was just a die change really.

Oddly the current Stanley wrenches at my local HD are the same as the Pretul/Asain Urrea/Surtek lines sold here in Mexico. Weekend warrior stuff really.
And they aren't all that good compared to the classic Proto-ish stuff.

The ratchets have 30 odd years in the market and can be sourced from about anywhere now. All the parts seem to interchange too. Ancient Plomb ratchets of the same numbers will interchange parts equally well.
I'm not a fan of those at all but they are an easy resell for little work.

I picked up a couple ratchet kits from HD online and they were indeed Taiwan made , so yes on some of the outsourching . I am not sure if they were gobbled up for the name or not.
seems most of the Proto style kits are discontinued or out of stock at HD.
I contacted Urrea about an old ratchet that we have had in our shop for years and the person on the phone said they will warranty it ,but I have to go through a distributor and then they will drop ship my ratchet kit.
Ratchet has a broken tooth, selector and heavy wear on one of the pawls.
Shows no signs of abuse,I am surprised by the broken tooth on a 5449 1/2"drive.
