HI ALL. I was wondering if anyone here has any input on the procom vented heater? It's similar to a big Maxx or hot dawg. Northern has them on sale for $299 for the 45000 BTU model.I've been looking for reviews and can't find any the only one I can find is on northern's site and ofcourse its bad. $299 seems like a hell of a deal I just wonder if its a POS or not.

I debated this also when I bought my 80K Big Maxx. I decided on the Big Maxx when I saw the weight difference between the two. I guess more weight doesn't indicate quality, buy it swayed me.

The only thing I don't like is all the talk of the circut boards failing on the Big Maxx units.....I guess for only $300 for the procom I might as well pull the trigger and hope for the best.:dunno:

They have simiar design, specifications and functions as the Big Maxx, Modine Hot Dawg's etc.. BUT they carry a non/well known PFS rating.

The Big Maxx units CB failures are now far and few between. They have been through a few REV changes in the last few years. In light of that, a very high percentage of these units are sold to consumers and installed by consumers, hence more percentage of failures due to improper handling and installations.

But the Review on Northern was about a broken circuit board...

It is not a bad price... but I'd find more reviews.

Been researching heaters for a few months also, I looked at both ProComm and BigMax at Northern Tool and I'd pick the BigMax. Quality of the BigMax was great for the money, and ProComm looked cheap and flimsy.

Best price of any competitor in 45K to 50K Btu size was Modine Hot Dawg that I got supplier in NE to match a price of $532 which is quite a bit more than the BigMaxx. Sterling and Reznor were another $100 to $200 more than the Hot Dawg. I haven't bought anything yet.

I'm still looking for a bargain on CL or Ebay but I may end up going with BigMaxx myself soon, especially if I can get a coupon to get below $400 pricepoint.

Check the percentage of bad reviews vs good. Most people when they buy a good product don't even write a review. Most that have problems will write one. I can't say enough good things about my Big MAXX. There's a ton of guys on here that have them with most having good to excellent things to say about them.

I can say i haven't heard too many if any going for the Procom for whatever reason.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy a big maxx......I'm sure they're top notch and I've read there customer service is great. I've been doing my homework and I've been reading alot about complaints of bad cb's...on these units and yes I know the ONE review I can find about the procom it's about a bad cb...it's hard to make a decicion based on just one review. I guess it boils down to getting a great deal and hope for the best or spend the bucks on a tried and true modine, big maxx or reznor...ect I will say though the procom company offfers a 10 year warranty on the heat exchanger and 3 year on parts the same as mr heater. so yea...not sure what I'm going to do :dunno:

Your doing whats natural. I spent about 6 months doing the same thing. I also worried about the CB problem as you did but decided to spring for the BigMaxx. It seamed a good compromise for all the heaters i looked at. I knew alot of people bought them and had good luck with them so i went for it. There's never a guarantee that you won't have a problem with anyone you buy. Installing it properly can and will minimize/eliminate any issues. They do have great customer service and the CSA rating has a lot more weight to it than the PFS rating which i have never heard of and can find little to no data on.
