I just finished a silly little project- a boom to suspend a bird feeder outside of our kitchen window, 15' off of the ground. The deck is about 8' away, so I made a boom out of 3/4" conduit and a product called Maker Pipe. They're fittings that clamp on to 3/4" conduit, and you just tighten them up with a 5 mm hex key. They're pretty inexpensive for the amount of time and trouble they save. I was going to cut the conduit, notch the ends, clean off the zinc for welding, weld, prime to keep from rusting, etc. With these fittings, you just the length and clamp together- done. I made a crude base with a notch to keep the thing from swinging in the wind. You lift it up until the pin is out of the notch, then swing it over to the deck for filling.
Their website shows a lot of possibilities; I'll be looking for excuses to use them from now on. I have no connection to this company; just thought it was a handy product.
