Production year question

Hi...just picked this up on the side of the road. Fired up instantly with a shot of 2 cycle mix in the throat of the carburetor.

Anyone have an idea as to it's decade of production i.e. 90s, 80s, 70s ?

The information on the model tag is worn.

Thank you! I agree, the wheels are odd...more customarily found on 2 cycle snowblowers.

This one still has the original spark plug and fuel valve shut off as the over spray of paint is on them.

Yes, there was a cardboard sign on it that said free.

It's in great condition.

I drained the fuel system completely and put fresh gas it. It started up on one pull and prime.

I have a green Bolens chipper / shredder from the same time frame and it has been bullet proof. Always starts on the first or second pull.

Did it have an airbox originally? Snow blowers typically don't have air cleaners, the engine just beathes open air.

Yeah, small engine equipment built before the 90s were well built!!

Yes it did. Correct, because snowblowers aren't used in a dusty environment, an air filter is not needed.

The air box I am referring to covers the area around the carburetor. (See the attached picture of another one. ) The box allows hot air into the engine via the carburetor. As I understand it, this helps the engine performance...however, I'm not a certified small engine tech and may be somewhat off on its purpose.

Plenty of filters of different sizes if you want one, look online for motorcycle generic filters.

Thanks. I'm not in need of an air filter. Snowblowers do not have air filters as they aren't used in dusty conditions.

Reduces the probability of carburetor icing. The atomization of the fuel, especially in damp weather, leads to icing, which knocks down the Venturi diameter and eventually stalls the engine.
