at long last. External factors delayed us, and we also had to can the glorious plan to stemclean the entire lathe and paint it yellow. Now, we scrubbed it " clean" and then painted it in the original color. Not what we wanted, but what we managed.

The real good news is that it is a very accurate lathe. I turned a 65 mm ground steel rod down to 64 mm over 1 m length. Best quality FAGERSTA tool. Over 1 m length the conicity ( is that a word??) was 1,5/100 mm. So , happy as a clam.
I then proceeded to turn it down another 0,5 mm turning it 120 degrees in the chuck . The three diameters were within 5/100 mm concentric.

Gearboxes, central lubing, speed change, all in good order.

The restoration project is now concluded. 6 months, 3 of which were taken up with cleaning out 30 years of gunk, chips, and general dirt.

First real job will be to straighten up 4 rims for a Radical race car.

Best regards

Ola

.00196 inches runout in 1 meter is fantastic. Great job on that beautiful lathe.

Luckily it does not have a gap. The few times we need a bigger swing the parts will be taken to a bigger lathe.
The gap makes the bed much weaker.
The features on this 1968 design are far more advanced than on european "jobshop" lathes from the same time.
12,5-2000 rpm in 24 steps, all the threads and feeds you can think of ( there are even settings to make twist drill blanks, pitch of 125 mm /turn), way lube built into the apron with metering valves, pressure oiling of the spindle bearings. The list goes on....

So, happy as a clam.

Best regards
