I installed a Mr. Heater garage propane heater in the ceiling of my workshop. Can I hook up a programable thermostat to it, and If so, what brand do you suggest?

What model, for a better answer?

I have Mr. Heater infrared, they use a millivolt thermostat. If that is what yours uses, there are programables that will work. Just be sure before you buy that it will work with millivolt systems.

Yes, you can.

Gussing you are talking about a 45/75 NG/LP unit. I have one on a programmable stat.

It's a cheap POS (the stat), temp-rite or rite-temp or something I picked up at HD. IIRc, I have two wires from the unit connected to it. Maybe 3 (one for power), but I do remember that I change the batteries in it (2 AA) annually.

If you can get a regular stat to work, and get drive the power for the programmable stat, you're all set.

If it is one of the unit heaters you are refering to then yes, you can use a programmable thermostat.

These units use a standard 24V thermostat same as what your house furnace uses.

I just installed a couple of Mr Heater LP high intensity overhead shop heaters. They came with mechanical thermostats but I want to use a wifi 24 volt thermostat. The heater manual state that “ ELECTRICAL
NeVeR CoNNeCT PoWeRPILe GAS VALVe oR THeRMoSTAT To LINe VoLTAGe oR A TRANSFoRMeR”. I found something online that said they ran a 24 volt thermostat combined with a milivolt relay to feed the heater. Any idea on whether this would work?

You just have to make sure you have the "C" (common wire) for power and your good to go. All of the units will have it, just some don't terminate it to the exterior of the unit.

To 1 up the programmable.. Wifi. Program it infinity ways and smart phone accessible.
