For some reason I have always liked metal boxes be it a tool box or something you put trash in. I guess the autobody background in me automatically fires the restoration neurons in my brain:wtf:. Well, I scored this beauty on etsy (thanks to the wife), and after $30 it was at my front door a couple months ago. I haven't really thought about it until the other day when I saw a similar one for sale on CL. The wheels have been turning since.

I am leaning towards a box to put my welding/grinding supplies such as grinding wheels, tips, welding wire etc. A good buddy of mine is an excellent painter and he could paint whatever I wanted on it, but I'm still not sure what to use it for. Anyone have a suggestion?

I scored the lock on ebay as well. It came from Romania and is different looking, but not the most security conscious lock ever built. Fashion over form with this one.

I stripped the outside of the box today, but didn't have any chemical stripper left to finish up the inside. I'll get some more this week. Here's the pics of when it was for sale to where we are now.

What are the dimensions?

I might add a "shelf" so the top would open to reveal a compartment, but it wouldn't be noticeable from the front opening.

Depending on dimensions, it may be good for mounting to the side of a tool box?

Great idea!! I will definitely do something like that. I'll even section it off to store my plasma cutter consumables seperate from the mig welder.

Nice find! I looked at the pics before I read your post, and immediately thought "welding supplies".

I'm watching this thread with interest. I've collected a few older electrical boxes. They are sturdy things with good hinges, but I'm not sure how to utilize them. I like the medical kit idea.

I was going to bring one inside and make it into a liquor cabinet...

Turn it into a little hidden cooler. Mount it to a wall and put small evaporator in it. Then run the lines out the back and inside a wall to a small condensing unit. Paint it like a first aid kit, bam beer can solve any medical emergency.

Put a shelf/box inside the lid to make a storage compartment accessible with the lid up.
Then put a shelf in the main body, so when you open the door, there is an upper and lower storage area. You might even figure out a way to put drawers in it behind the door.

Then mount it to the side of your tool box.
The compartment under the list will be VERY handy.

I am gonna definitely do the upper shelf thing, but I may do some sort of small pegboard to mount some welding pliers, strikers, my small angle grinder and cut-off tool as well as a couple of small heating tips I have acquired through the years. I'll fill the top shelves with consumables along with grinding wheels etc.

Here's the box done in all its glory!! I had a local pinstriping legend (Jerry Campbell) pinstripe it. I also painted the box red on the inside. It contrasts really well.
