WOW! Fantastic build. I looked over the storage(whatever) site. They are getting close to my house. If they were built closer to either here or up in Wis. Dells where I have a place, I'd be interested for sure.

I was thinking of the Wisconsin Dells for a while now. If I get a few others, I would go ahead and build a StorageShopUSA site up there.

give me an email

Sorry, paint is done.. I guess I forgot to mention that :bounce:

My wife and I wanted to keep an open-air feeling but create a little separation between downstairs and upstairs so we ended up with a 42" high kneewall.

Some guys just do a full railing and some do a full wall - and enclose the stairs. That's a very different look and would have blocked out all of the great light we get from the windows upstairs.

My Camaro is the only car that's a real fume generator and I promised my wife I'd keep it right by the door - *** out.

Welding and other fumes will hopefully be kept in check by the six ceiling fans and by opening the deck door.

Regarding grease from downstairs - that's easy.. no shoes upstairs.

awesome you got it handled, so what is the next thing you are gonna start doing??

Upstairs flooring just completed
Window trim completed
Upstairs floor/door trim tomorrow
Stair treads being done tomorrow
Stair tread covers/rubber landing piece install Thurs
Plumbing the water heater/softener/utility tub/shower/head Friday
Compressor delivery/wiring Friday
TV's/Tunes/etc. coming Friday.. Install as soon as the mounts show up.

Trying to figure out what to use to protect the sheetrock around the perimeter (lower level). We were going to use 5051 brushed aluminum diamond plate, but the pricing got crazy.

Considering having first 3' sprayed with rhino lining material. Who knows.

Those are the next few things.

Blast proof the lower sections, goes on like wallpaper, can stop a mortor round, "wallpaper" then rhino line, then challenge ur buddy to put his fist through the wall

That stuff is crazy!

Just looking for water resistance mainly, and something to add a little texture and/or color to those very long (40') walls.

I considered using Racedeck flooring tiles on the wall, but haven't seen many examples of that.

Worst case, I'll just leave it until I come across a wall treatment that I can't live without :)

quick question: where did you find those fans out over the main part of the bay? I may be looking for some in the near future, and they look good/simple.

Wow thats pretty awesome... How high is the main ceiling? Looks very high, why not build out the 2nd floor more and use more of the space?

Here you go.. about the most powerful (reasonably priced) all white fan I could find.. Good company.. I buy lots of things from Global.

Be aware - the fan has a little gold pinstripe around it - if that matters, you can do what I did and just pinstripe over it with something less 'flashy' like gray :)

Thanks Cobra.

18' high.

We built the mezzanine over the 'work area' and closet but left about 2/3rds of it 18' high so I can put a couple of 4 post (80" lift) lifts.

The mezzanines are very expensive to build and for us and/or re-sale it's better to leave at least 1/2 open to store boats/RV's/etc.

very sweet build. I would of never though Garage condo's even exsisted!

Are these a type of building anyone can by? Or do you need to be part of a condo group?

It's amazing how much time and money went into the build after the intial purchase. Can't be cheap. And I read somewhere there is 40 acres worth of these things are they right next to each other?

Im sure location varies the price and if its not getting to personal whats a set up like that cost pre hooked up? I know skies the limit once you get inside?

And how much were you responsible for once you bought it? was there any electric plumbing fire sprinklers etc? Or just a free stand structure?

Enjoy the new place its sick!!

Anyone can buy one and when you do buy one, you also are buying a piece of the clubhouse/property.

There are about 125 built with another 50 or so in-process or to be built.

The condo's run a bit more than $100 per square foot (rough). That's insulated, sheetrocked, primed, in floor heat, 100 amp service, halon fire suppression above the unit and wet system in-unit, floor drain, and a basic electrical outlet setup.

Most electrical is on the owner to choose/pay for, as is whole unit paint, concrete treatment and mezzanine-related expenses (most expensive part by far): lighting above it and below it, bathroom with all the incidentals/plumbing, flooring, stairs/treads/railing, doors/trim, under-mezzanine sprinkler system, etc.

We pay a modest monthly association fee for on-site maintenance of the grounds/clubhouse as well as our own unique internet/satellite/heat/electrical.

It's not cheap, but its a lot less expensive than selling our home and finding another one with the garage space equivalent to our current home garage (1100) and this condo (1600+600 mezzanine).

Here's a pic a friend of mine took of my truck that shows you one of the buildings - you can see more at the website - www.automotorplex.com

Thanks very much.. If I got a stripper pole, my wife would ensure that I became a full time tenant at the 'condo'. Come to think of it, how rough would that be ;)

How far from you house is this again? Maybe I'm the oddball, but I'd feel wierd having my toys out at some other location where I had to hop in and drive to them. Now if it was 15 minutes then ok I guess.

But... why not build a place at your house?

EDIT: Nevermind... re-read your OP.

You're right, it will seem a little weird not being able to just go out to the garage to check on the car/s,

I'm planning to keep one 'play' car at my house - probably the Z06 and the Camaro/FFR will stay at the man cave.

I'm also shopping for a Jeep Rubicon to work on and drive around and that will take up residence primarily at the condo.

Optimally, I'd like to have everything at home, but then I'd miss out on the community of cool people at Motorplex.

15 min from my house - 5 from my office.

The cabinets for the workspace (below the mezzanine) arrived from Massachusetts today.

In generally, they arrived in good shape with the exception of a nice sized scratch and a couple of minor ones one of the towers :(

I'm hopeful that Moduline will take care of it.

I set them up basically how they will go on the wall - obviously the top cabinets won't sit on the lower ones :)

I also sprang for a very, very sturdy aluminum folding table - should be a great work/party table.
