That's what I was hoping, but no.
The towers are directionally hinged, so I can't swap them.
I pulled the plastic off the other tower and found another scratch in the front of that one.
I love the cabinets - But they use about a zillion heavy metal staples to adhere the cardboard wrap to itself.. all with the sharp ends pointing in.
I'll call them tomorrow - I'm sure they'll work it out.

I just got a chance to see the new updates ,it looks great. Sorry to hear about the scratches on the cabinets it looks like a sweet setup. I hope they make good on it quickly.

Update - Moduline has resolved the issue/s.
It sounds like they may have had some folks working in the shipping area that weren't as experienced and placed my cabinets back to back with cardboard in between vs doing them face to face.
They're going to send me a replacement door with the hinge installed and a new right sided panel for the left tower.. should be fairly easy to drill the rivets out and replace.
For my trouble, they comped my original shipping ($900)
Very, very good customer support and it validates my reason for buying Moduline cabinets. Kudos to Mike Dolan on their team for making it happen.

I read your whole thread and I am very jealous. That's a sweet place. I have a suggestion for your cabinet scratches. Turtle wax has a product called "Black Box" that is specifically for black cars. This might make the scratches less aparent, but you might have to do all the cabinets so they match. It's about 25 bucks at Advance.

Moduline is going to send out replacement panels but I may try that on the 'old' panel for the right tower to see how it works.
The right panel of the left tower's scratch is too far gone IMO to save with any polishing compound type solutions.. it's into the aluminum.

She loves the idea.
I do not think there is anything like this available in the UK.
People have industrial units, or part shares in units, but not on this scale.
Love all the electric stuff too, as I am a bit of a gizmo and gadget fan.

Thanks. Motorplex is 15 minutes from our home and 5 minutes tops from my offfice. Proximity is key as none of us want to be too far from our toys
The scale of this place probably is unique to markets like Minnesota where land is relatively inexpensive. I can't imagine how much the land for a complex like Motorplex would cost anywhere in the UK or in more expensive U.S. markets like Miami or L.A. I guess it's what we get for dealing with the tough winters.
Thank goodness TV's are a lot less expensive than they were 4-5 years ago.. Both the Sony's cost less than one DLP TV I bought back then.

Thanks - The Moduline cabinets are a splurge for sure (like the rest of this build). I almost went with Gladiator cabinets like I have at home, but I knew I'd always be lusting after the Moduline's after seeing them around.

The guys who framed the wall were a little off with their 16" on center dimensions - we got lucky that the middle of that wall under the mezzanine was framed right on. If we wall mount upstairs, we'll use a standard surface mount because the outside walls aren't traditionally framed (and because we didn't know exactly how our furniture was going to go up there).

Hirisc, Excellent setup i would love to have a garage condo around here, the clubhouse should make for some good comraderie and association.
A few questions: What's the policy as far as working in the garage? Is there a time limit that you're allowed or can you have the compressor and air tools running with door open on a hot night @ 3A.M? And can you pretty much come and go as you please with no restrictions,Clubhouse as well?
Also with the financial part can this be financed through the builder or do you have to either pay in full or go through a bank? And the price is roughly $100 S.F @1600SF = $160,000 with the mezzanine? How much just for the empty space?

We have a small private airfield near my house and they have a similar set up as hangers/condos. I know there are a few car nuts in there as well. Lone Star Classics Cobra kit cars have their building in a warehouse right in the middle of them.
I wish I could take credit for the idea.. We all have Bruno Silikowski to thank for the great idea.
The Motorplex is in a mainly industrial area - at least within earshot - so I guess if one was inclined to work at 3am with the door open, one could. The complex - including the clubhouse - is access controlled and is available to owners 24/365.
+/- $100 per square is the shell - no mezzanine - and is somewhat dependent on availability (that old supply vs demand thing) and unit location within the building. End units are a bit more.
Shell is insulated/sheetrocked/primed, and includes electrical service and small compliment of 110v outlets, one spigot for H20, t5 lighting @ 18', fire suppression, in-floor heat.
The mezzanine, lighting above/below, electrical upgrades (many), fire suppression under, water heater/softener, bathroom, kitchen, related plumbing, whole-unit paint, fans, door/window/stair trim, upstairs/downstairs flooring treatment, outside deck, stair tread treatment, A/C rough in, misc. are on the owner post-purchase.
Some guys do nothing - eg raw storage, but most do a mezzanine, at least a 1/2 bath, and at least a fridge/sink mini-kitchen.
Motorplex per se does not finance, but as commercial property, the units can be financed through an amenable bank if so desired.

A friend in Rotterdam, Netherlands bought an old funeral director building. On the ground floor is a huge workshop complete with a 4 post lift originally used to service the hearses, a small office area with kitchen, toilet etc and space for about 12 cars plus stacks of storage space.
The best bit is he was able move into and live in the rooms above the workshop. A great place to be.

I originally thought it would come in about $225K.. It's going to be closer to $250K when we get it wrapped up. We've upgraded quite a few items on the fly and some things were simply more expensive (or weren't on my radar) than I originally estimated.
That ^^ is not inclusive of the Moduline cabinets, electronics, furnishings, tools/lifts.
As I've said, not cheap, but it's a lifetime buy and a lot cheaper than flipping houses to get a 2700+ square foot (1600 condo + 1100 house) garage.

man, you are making me think now....we are thinking of relocating to NC (triangle area), and looking at houses with 3 and 4 car garages (in the ~500K range). we can get a nice house around the same size we have now for 250 and I can spend 250 on a mack daddy man cave condo garage....lol

According to the paperwork, the cabinets are manufactured by Cross Creek and are in the Durham Maple Square style. They came finished and we had the option of clear or many different stains. We chose clear.
There's another name stamped on the side of the cabinets - I'll snap a picture of that and post it up tomorrow.
Edit - 'KraftMaid Cabinets' is etched into the inside of the cabinets. Must be the line of cabinets by Cross Creek (?).

I look at this place every day at work! I work in the building that is directly north of this complex, it's been pretty cool to see it go from a field to the car condo's it is currently.
I'd love a tour if your willing. In exchange for the tour I'll agree to look out the window at work daliy and make sure your condo is okay

I took a very similar (albeit far less costly) route a few years back and have not regretted it.
My intention when I took this step was to be able to flip houses every few years without having to move my shop. Also, I figured that it was much easier to sell a regular house or a shop building then it would be to find a buyer for a house with a big shop behind it if I HAD to sell. What it actually allowed me to do is to move into a smaller, less expensive home on a city lot with a smaller garage at home
My building is classified as a "storage condo" in a development of about 60-70 buildings located just outside of the small town that I live in north of Milwaukee, WI. The development here was the first that I had ever seen like it and it was very successful for the developers.
Mine is 40 X 60 w/ 16 ft ceilings. It has 200 Amp electric single phase and a gas main run into it. It is a stand alone building with no shared walls. The downside - no sewer and water.
I bought my building about 5 yrs ago now. Cost at that time was roughly $30 / SF for the one that I bought. Smaller one (30X40) were selling at roughly $45 / SF. Metal sided and roofed building, 2X6 wall construction, concrete floor, single 12 ft OH door and a service door. It costs me roughly $1000 / yr for property taxes and another $250 / yr to plow the roads and cut the grass.
I have yet to finish the inside, but I am starting to work on it this summer as time and money allow. It has been a cost effective solution for me, I think a good investment, and great flexible space to do anything in. I would recommend something like it to anyone.
