Project garage in basement 650 sqft

Hello everyone,
We have bought with my wife a little house near Paris 2 years ago. At this time, we had three cars, a old Xantia from my parents, My wife’s dented Twingo, and my BMW M3 e36. So we have searched a house with just one garage (and more, we didn’t have money to buy more). So we have a 61 sqm (657 sqft) house with a 17 sqm garage (183 sqft).
Now, we still have these 3 cars, but we also have a BMW e36 vert and a BMW e39. No baby, but why not in the next few years.
So for 2017, we begin to build an enlargement. It will be about 60 sqm more, over a total basement for a new garage (so 60sqm too). I want to put 3 cars everytime in, and 4 cars if necessary. More, I want a lift system to work on the cars. Today I must work out side, on stays (so no work in winter, it’s boring).
Here some pictures to understand what I’m saying.

I have a question that I can’t make up my mind: how and where lift my cars ?
I have the choice about: cisor lift, pit with pit lift, two post lift, 4 post lift.
Where? In the front of the garage ? At the back ?
Remember, I want to put 3 cars in, all the time, and 4 car in some situation. I want to have a bench somewhere in, with some tools.

Is someone had make this choice before? Which are yours advices?

We hope to finish the design of the enlargement with the architect in febuary, maybe march.

PS : If i make some mistake in english, please correct me

Tath: i'm bumping up your thread to the top so maybe others viewing it might be able to help. i'm not a car guy, but i know a lot of the members are so maybe one of them can tell you what lift to buy.

i know if i'm not planning on storing one and just using it for my smallish cars the MAX JAX seems to look good to me and here's a link to a video.

you might like this video since he also has a BMW, but there are several good Max Jax videos. there are also lots of choices on lifts, but not sure how many of those are available in France.

congrats on your purchase of your new home. also here's a good thread for you to read if you want to know more about a Max Jax lift, remodeling your garage and home or just want to learn more about technology cause Denwood has it all in his thread.

Yes i had saw the Maxjack, and i wait for a quote. But it's not sold in France. If i buy one, it come from UK. Max jack will be the best solution (not the cheapest) because if i doesnt use it, I could put in a corner and park a car a the place. Maybe, it's better to build a small pit with it (around 80cm - 1m so 1 yard) to have a largest high to work. I'll see. Cheapest than the max jack will be the quick jack. But not so easiest to work with. (Quick jack cost 1500€ in France)

Since last week, we payed an architect for this project (many laws in France to build an enlargement) and she will have better solutions than us to solve the issues to integrate it to our currently house. We wait for the first drawings in febuary.

Tath: while we you are waiting for permits or plans do you have any favorite spots of France that you have pictures of to post? i see a lot of great sites while watching the Tour De France bike race every year, but would love to see pictures of what a native Frenchman likes if you have time to post up a few.

I took this picture driving from the skiing station Flaine to Salanches. (the Tour de France goes to Salanches some times) Salanche is under the fog !

Great pictures, Dakar Yellow is my second favorite M3 color (first is Estoril Blue).

I also wanted to suggest a two-post lift - they do not block the underside of the vehicle like an in-floor unit, take up less total floor space than a 4-post, and some versions are even portable. The total width of your space will be an important consideration, though...a 2-post may be harder to walk around if your bay is narrow.

Thanks all.
I bought my M3 286hp 4 years ago. The paint is new from 2014. It has now 129 000 km (80 000 miles). When i bought it, i want more a clean car than a specific color. But now, I love this color !

Tc-cad : not, Paragliding isn't very hard. I pratice very few (just 5 flight since 2012). I began with a 4 days traineeship. In this 4 days, we made lot of "school slope" (you feel the wing on a light slope), 1 flight in tandem, and at the end, a solo flight, guide by radio. If you flight peacefully, it isnt dangerous (especially with a school wing). The hardest is to know how and when begin the landing.

Still, in Bourgogne. Bourgogne is a county with a old history, specially in the middle age (Duke of Burgundy, in the 100 years war, ...) So, some had decide to build a middle age castle with the middle age technology. Really. The site began in 1997, and end in 2025 i guess. The name of the site is Guedelon. Only one task was made with wheel loaders is the filling of the foundations. with men and spades, it had taken time !

Nice dakkar e36 M3, I am going to assume that it is a 3.0L? I lived not far from France whe my ex and I were stationed in Bitburg Germany. We would venture over occasionally but being where we were there were so many places to go and see.

I have a 95 M3 US spec and a 88 M3 US spec. Southern France and Southern Spain are great places for finding older E30's which are now impossible to find in good shape here in the certain parts of the US.

I know the spec e36 US M3 but I don't know about e30. What are the differents between US and Euro e30 M3 ? just a story about catalyzer or more ?
Maybe southern France an Spain are great places for finding E30, but they are less and less cheap today...sadly.

North America got a bigger M50/52 for the later years with a slightly more aggressive cams. We did not get ITB indvidual throttle bodies we go one, plus eu got mechanical valves which Americans in general don't like to have to spend money and time without their car to have serviced so our engines were 50 hp and about 55nm down on power.

Now the US engine made for a better engine in US driving conditions and emissions but was never a rocket like the rest of the world got.

The solutions are well thinked.

The size of the garage is maximized. I could put 4 cars in, i have enough high in the back to put a maxjax lift. i could make a small mezzanine to put some pieces or tools.

Due to a strenght of level in the main level, we must have just 2.3m in the front of the garage. that's forced to have the lift in the back. So no more difficult choice to make

Dimensions are in metric.
The enlargement is the biggest part of the house.

Hi everyone,

The project changed a lite from last year. it's similar to the lastest sketche but now, the extension is closer to the street.
After this change of location, the town agreement, finding the professional wich make the works, etc... the terrasment began two weeks ago. some pictures :

There were lot of bad weather last days, so foundations take lot of time :

I hope when foundation will be done, works could go faster, and sun will coming soon. This night, it rained 82 mm ( more than 3 inches), for us, it's 50 days of "normal" rain
