I have to agree with the other posters above. Very much stress on that pipe railing will pull the lags out of the floor. It does look well built but if much weight fell against the horizontal rail, it might tip over. I would want the horizontal rail tied to the opposite wall. Don't get me wrong, it looks good, but I can't see it holding up under someone falling against it. But it may work fine and I am certainly no engineer. Everything looks good in there otherwise to me. Also if any small children were around, I would want it all screened in somehow. Accidents have their ways no matter what.

I agree 100%. Now that I have the welder I have the ability to build a proper railing in that area I will probably lose the black pipe and apply it somewhere else, maybe a tire rack or something. I am thinking a simple vertical rail with flat bar on top would be good I don't have a torch or I would investigate some clever twisted rail or something.

Very nice set of recent updates! That rolling cart fab up looks great!

One idea for the stair rail that would give it a little more strength than lag bots is to bolt it down all the way through and use large washers and nuts underneath - that way it is more about the actual stair snapping instead of just lag bolts pulling out.

Keep up the great work!

I had thought about that but I am actually going to build some new railing now that I have the welder. It will probably be done by fall if all goes well with everything else I have planned to do!

So now that I have a few minutes to write I will say that the new cabinets are working out great. One negative to the welded gladiator cabinets is that while 1 alone will fit the studs; more than one butted up will not. There is 6" between locating holes between two cabinets so its always off. How I remedied that was to screw in 1x4 into the studs across the wall top and bottom and then lag the cabinets into that. I leveled everything with a 2x4 across the bottom (leveled that then sat cabinets on it). All in all I wish I would have bought 3 more that would have been perfect. If they pop back up on the cheap I certainly will pick them up.

I will snap a couple shots of my fabrication corner with the welder, table and drill press but thats not quite ready.

Between the Gladiator cabinets and my above door storage I finally am about 85% happy with the garage. All thats left is trimming the windows, closing up the area under the stairs, insulating the ceiling, install forced heat, build new stair rail, run air to the reel, touch up paint and install Race Deck......

Yeah; thats all! Hahaha
