Slooow bit speed, good lube (WD-40 or kerosene work well) and LOTS of pressure. Once work-hardened, you're royally screwed.I have used some SS on projects and detest the work hardening that happens when drilling holes. I can't imagine trying to punch holes in plate this thick without eating drill bits.

BTW--I know you don't have a welder--yet--but weld spatter sticks to SS like no one's business.
