Project planner software

Does anyone know of a preferable free software or app that I can design and create cut lists from?
I built some basic cabinets for my organizing boxes. But I think with better software I’d end up with a better product!

Yea....I can understand the need for CAD when you want zero mistakes in the design. It is quite useful for that purpose.

But (now showing my age with wireframe 2D ) I still have to generate the 3 views or enough of it to make sense so I could dimension the cut pieces.

Even in solids 3D CAD I'm going to guess that you have to create the LxWxH "rectangular prism" object manually which is essentially already the cut piece.....

What your looking for is called a co-op. You can get them for free at your local engineering college.

I thought there was a app or program where u could draw a cabinet and it would generate a cut list as well.

I can draw it out on paper but thought I might be behind the times!

Any of the higher end CAD programs will do this for you. I use Inventor and it builds a part list or bill of materials as I create the parts. I can then sort it by material description. Sheet metal parts are shown in the BOM with the flat pattern sizes.
Will not tell me total amount of material required but the BOM can be directly exported to Excell where that math can be done.

There are some free programs Autodesk's Fusion360 comes to mind that will do this for you

That would be convenient, for a fab shop I worked at, we were cutting pipe a lot, so I made a spreadsheet that would help me get the most pieces out of a 20' length with the least amount of drop.
