Great blog that has offered much direction in my 2 year backyard project. I'll keep details simple but if you have questions, need details or want more pics, do ask. This is basically a house with a garage door. My tile sales lady thought I was crazy putting tile in my garage but I saw it here 1st.

25 x 28 shop with 12 x 25 patio, 9' ceilings. Wood frame with Gerrard metal shingle roof, Lennox 3 ton heat-pump HVAC.

DO you hate the dreaded garage door rattle from the wind? Here's my fix.

Compressor in the attic. I have a 30 amp wall switch in the garage I can turn it on as needed. It's also very very quiet!!!

Here's my hose reel that comes down from the celing. You may noticed my angle die grinder hanging from the celing in the garage pics by the reel power cords.

Very nice design of the whole facility. Lots of different objectives there. Do you live in Arizona? At first I thought no, they probably wouldn't allow shingles there. But then I saw they were metal shingles... Perfect solution!

Fun place to be. With your garage wind rattle straps, so they're not fastened to the door itself? (so just glides as the door goes up and down? But it's there to just stabilize the moving?)

Matt I'm actually in Oklahoma so the metal roof is for the wind and hail. Tom, the straps do fasten to the door itself. If you look at the top strap in the pic you will see the hook. They work great at keeping the door pressed against the weather seal. The straps are just rubber chain straps like you would see on a bike rack.

Tom are you referring to hinge on the door panels themselves? My problem "was" along the edge of the door between the door and the weather stripping. There is always a little play there as there is normal play in the track rollers. I assume if they were as tight as they need to be the door would create too much friction against the trim edge. The straps just keep the entire door from moving in and out 1/4" along that weather stripping during higher winds. Thanks BTW!!

I've been looking into stone covered steel roofing for my personal residence. Seems like Decra and Gerard are the big players. How do you like yours? Cost, if you are willing to share? Does it have exposed fasteners? Noticed any granules washing off? Anything else I should know? Thanks in advance.

That place is awesome. I just finished tiling the motorcycle work bay of my shop and the tile guy thought I was nuts also. I think my friends did too until they saw it. Wife is like do what you want. Some great ideas here. Looks like you did your homework. Welcome to GJ.

Karl I love mine, the look is fantastic. My previous roof on my home was destroyed by hail. I added the same to my shop to match my home obviously. There are no visible straps at all. There are a few stone granules that come off initially the 1st few months but it is nothing like a regular shingle then it tapers off to nothing as regular shingles continue to release some over their life span. Each shingle interlocks and as you may noticed they lip under the eve so they can't be lifted from wind getting under them. They offer 120mph wind warranty and tested to 170mph. 2.5" hail warranty and class A fire rated. Most fires jump from roof line to roof line. These things won't burn. Cost for my building was 8,000 and around 8-900 a square. I've seen bids by reputable companies twice that so shop around. The nice thing too, is they cover and color all your flashing, pipes, whatever with the stone epoxy to make your entire roof line look uniform and seamless. Insurances usually offers 5 to 20% discounts and I believe they have 100 year warranty. A good investment if you never plan on moving. Also they do recommend placing the Gerrard metal shingle over your existing shingles if they are in good condition but it can be done either way. This does offer some sound insulation and makes it quieter.

Lol Hewey, me too. RH my wife said the same thing but she got what she wanted outside. Much of the homework came from this sight. Mainly the porcelain tile, it's a thru body color commercial tile that I bet is harder than the concrete it covers. Here' a few more pics.

Hose reel.

Attic space I use for storage.

Commercial grade fogger system with SS lines. Power switch and water on/off and drain valves in kitchen cabinet.

A few toys I keep in there.
