This is awesome - although if he learns to fall asleep to the sound of shop tools, it could get dangerous when he's older!! LOL

Love the Nursery - the place gets cooler and better all the time!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BTW - Those compressor lines sure are to spec. Rarely see them plumbed by the book like that with take offs above drops, etc. Have you shown us the old (55?) Chev truck??

Thanks guys, really appreciate it.

Our little guy is 13 months now and walking - I've been thinking about a "quiet room" in my shop for him to be safe in - but now that he's walking - and opening doors, flushing toilets and pushing every button he can reach - I'm thinking it's safer to just leave him in the house with Mom... when she's home... I'm finding that my shop time is severely limited now.

-I'm home most of the day with the little guy, so its our own little retreat! ;)

congrats on the little one . this is still my alltime favorite garage

wow, thanks for the compliment sasquach!

e-tek... Its a 51 chevy. I haven't posted anything here about it, but here is a teaser pic and link to its build thread on the hamb...

This is a great thread. Form follows function. Looking forward to seeing more on your 51 AD. I have a 2-ton 55 first series myself.

Its the side door for my lake's roadster one day...hah

It just goes out to the side yard. Right now its where all the mowers and **** go. In the next year or so, ill build a yard barn for that stuff. Other than that the garage is about done. Other than the little tinker stuff i need to do to "finish" all my past projects.

I plan on adding a pretty decent sized blast cabinet this spring and getting my old Chevy on the road.

Great shots of the Chev! I love using my old 46 MErc for yard work. It get used most weekends all summer - it's so much more fun to drive than something newer!Makes me look forward to dump-runs!

This was too fun to read... took me a while to get caught up, but dang.
Lots of neat stuff here I am going to try when I get started. Like the BendPak!

Very nice shop, love the 51. Have you got it started yet? I read on the hamb that you were having problems getting it to fire over. A few things to help look for, make sure battery is full charged and check it with a volt meter to verify. Wiring on old trucks can be a problem, but make sure you have good GROUNDS, clean gas. and change the oil, even if you plan to tear it down.
With the valve cover off, when someone is cranking, make sure all the valve rods are going up and down and not bent, and oil is pumping thru them.
OK back to the building, thats a nice Goodyear sign too.

Thanks! Yeah i have gotten the 51 to run (squirting gas down the carb with a water bottle). It showed good oil pressure and seems as smooth as can be expected, so i think i am ok.

I am in the process of cleaning out the gas tank and running new fuel lines. Ive got the carb rebuild kit, just haven't gotten around to it. I not sure yet, but my guess is the fuel pump diaphragm is toast too.

the soffits seems to match the metal siding very well, along with the door trim is it metal also from same supplier ?

Actually it's not from the same supplier. It matched up really well though. If the aluminum soffit/ fascia/ starter had a little more sheen it would be a perfect match. I did my homework on both before i committed.

Is your stem wall 6" or 8" block?

10" base where i needed a brick ledge and 6" block above that if my memory serves me. My walls are 2x6 studs and i wanted them to end up flush, thus the reason for the 6" block.

Thanks for the compliments guys!

Great build! My son screamed for the first 3 months of his life. I swear it was a test. After putting up with it all day, my wife would meet me at the door with him. I would take him to the shop. It seemed to distract him a bit. The one thing that would quiet him down was if he was outside, and we would start up the race car. She was at the track during most of her pregnancy. Maybe he heard the race cars in there. LOL.
I should have done steel for the ceiling in my new place. Did some on one wall, and love it. It does tend to discourage you from mounting anything to the walls though.
My wife wants one of those years of trucks something fierce. Just stock and doesn't have to be nice. I like her tastes!

I have a question for you,

In one of the pictures (with the flue from the Mr Heater Big Maxx), it shows PVC pipe sticking up from the ground.....

1) Is that a clean out/scope hole for the weeping system around the foundation?

2) Do the downspouts tie into the weeping system? (that is allowed in some places, although becoming more rare)

If it is a clean out, I think it is a great idea that is rarely used........

Sorry Ryan missed your questions...

Yes it is a clean out for the weeping tile, the gutter down spout on the front of the shop has a y for easy clean out too. (cheap insurance). My weeping tile is separate but uses much of the same trench as the down spouts/ floor drains. I tend to over think things...

Thanks for all the additional compliments from everyone else too!

PurdueSD, just finished re-reading the entire thread and am in awe of what you (and your family) have accomplished. Working full-time, designing and building 95% yourself takes some serious dedication. Kudos to you for living up to Purdue's motto - “To Make the Best Better”.

Great Building! This is exactly the kind of design I have been looking for. Can I ask where you purchased your building?

Its a custom building my father and I Completely built ourselves. Concrete footers, 2x6 studs 16" oc, built better than most homes

I was just looking and discovered that I have never posted on your thread. I have been talking about how I wanted to go with the wainscot look since I saw your build.

An index has been created for the Garage Gallery build threads and I would like to submit yours on behalf of the Garage Journal community. We are trying to capture as many inactive threads as possible so I hope you don't mind. It will serve as a placeholder until you log in and check it for accuracy. Should you find errors, you can easily submit your own entry and mine will be deleted.

Drop in and give us an update if you have a moment.

One of the absolute best builds on the forum. My favorite part has to be the matching Goodyear banners on either side of the lift... aka where'd ya get them?

My hat goes off to you, sir.

Thanks! The Goodyear signs hung on my great grandfathers mechanics shop, then my granfathers small engine shop, then my dads basement. One day they will be my son's!

Just went through your build thread, great shop!
I like your trusses and making use of the attic/storage space. I sat down with my truss supplier just last week to change the design to make use of that space, before its too late!
Cheers!

How is your water supply set up? Is it a drive point or is it a pipe from the house?
