Proof USA made wrenches aren't always better

My wife started a Christmas tradition a few years ago that everyone in the family has to make at least one gift for each person in the family. At first I wasn't too fond of the idea, but after seeing the creative gifts my kids have made for each other the last few years, I'm very glad she came up with this idea. The two wooden wrenches are my attempt (yet to be finished) at making some SK knockoffs for my four year old son. He is always wanting to use tools and pretend he's fixing stuff. He always has his plastic pedal car on the "lift" (usually a couple of boxes) working underneath it. Hopefully he'll find these wrenches as a welcome addition to his tool collection and make good use of them during his car repairs.

Awesome idea! Start 'em young. My dad never helped with my passion for wrenching, didn't even believe me when I said I wanted to work on my own car :lol_hitti

Thanks. My dad's viewpoint was the opposite. His words to me were grab some tools and fix it or do without. I was usually fixing stuff.

I'm here to tell you younger guys that have the ability, a good set of blocks is the best thing you can give a kid. Really.

I also made a set of alphabet blocks, we spent a lot of time saying the letter and then putting it on the pile to build "tall towers".

Every minute spent with your kids will be returned multifold.

I'm in the USA, but the wrenches I made just aren't the best. But they made my boy happy so they'll do.

For making your young son happy, and the value he may attach to them when he's older, those are the best I've ever seen. Well done, and good for you and your wife for your tradition!:thumbup::thumbup:

Nice! I grew up helping dad with everything from wrenching on cars and tractors to doing electrical, plumbing, and carpentry (dad built our house). Loved helping Dad, and even got my own tool set at 6 (hardware store set, more than good enough for working on my bike and powerwheels)

Get your kid some legos...talk about an entertaining and educational toy that has endless possibilites and helps develop a mechanically inclined mind...

Nice work on the wrenches - obviously lots of love there. I think I would have woosed out and bought him a cheap set from HF rather than taking all the time you did to make a truly one-of-a-kind gift.

Good job, daddy!

Ditto!

Time with your kids is one of the best presents you can give them......they learn a lot from their parents, so be on your best behavior.

Nice! I still treasure the wooden toys my dad made for me 30+ years ago. I don't imagine he realized the little trinkets he spent a few minutes cranking out on his band saw would mean so much to me.

You are incorrect. Those are way better than the Chinese wooden wrenches.:D
Thanks. I just ran across some Chinese wooden wrenches and I must admit, they weren't as nice! And to everyone else that chimed in, thanks for all the kind words. I did engrave my son's name, sizes and a big ole USA on the wrenches before adding some nice grey paint. The wrenches sit on top of all his other tools in his toolbox. He loved them. Again, thanks.

Glad to see I wasn't the only one.

If this kid is showing an interest, by all means encourage it every way possible. Lots of us out here wish we had some encouragement.
