I just called to have my tank filled and was $2.95 gallon. The cost if you own your own tank was only .20 per gallon less. What a joke.

Agreed - if you are paying more than $2/gal for propane, you need to find a new vendor. I paid $1.39 in MD a few weeks ago.

I got propane last mont for the house (500 gal) and the garage (120 gal) and it was $2.80/gal. Cost a little over $1000 for the fill :shocking: We did put all new windows in the house this year so was hoping that would help, but then the sub zero temps offset that

There has got to be some regional differences. I called all around for prices, and everything was in the mid to upper $2's per gallon. No way I could find anything up north here in New Hampshire for $1.39 or I would have stockpiled!

Fortunately I don't burn much fuel, but it would be nice to have some savings.

Wow, I guess I didn't get hammered too bad.
Last summer when I had the tank set, it was $2.49 per for 150 gallons
10 days ago I had them return to top it off and it was $2.09.
It is a 250 gallon tank, only providing fuel for the 125kBTU Reznor in the shop.
But momma is gonna make me install a new stovetop next summer, and it'll be propane, and we are gonna do a gas water heater as well, so things are going to change.
But getting away from all electric should knock our energy bills down, too.

...On the wood BTU, hardwood like Oak, Madrone, etc. has a high BTU rating than pine or other softwoods simply becasue it is denser and burns longer. This is the explaination I have been given.
Whatever the reason, hardwood is better. We heat the house almost exclusively with a airtight woodstove, and it would take 3 cords of pine to do what 1-1/2 cords of good seasoned Oak will do, not to mention stuffing the stove full far more often. A good chunk of Oak or two stuffed into it at 11:30, and dampened back will still have enough coals left to fire off a stick of pine the next morning. Pine/cedar is great for easy starting, but it does not last.
IMHO/ Yer mileage may vary.

You are not going to be happy with that new proposed gas water heater, they are terribly inefficient. Once it gets to temp and shuts off, you have the constant draft of cold air coming from the bottom and going up the chimney. This draws all that heat off the water tank requiring the heater to constantly turn on to reheat the water even if you aren't using it.

I did get ahead of myself, maybe you intent to install a gas fired tankless unit. In that case disregard my whole post!

I am in East Central Indiana and was just quoted $1.89/gallon to fill a 120 gallon tank. Another company in the next town told me it would be around $3.25/gallon. That's a pretty big difference.

Just like anything you need to shop around. I was just told if you own your own tank propane is cheaper? I will have to check that out. Best price in my area $2.35 on last friday.

Just filled 2.72/gallon.

$500. Thats just for ONE MONTH. Trying to decide if I should, or can pay it right now. Cant afford an extra $500/month for 4 months out of the year. Might have to get on a pmt plan or something - of course, that will probably make the price even higher.

I keep the t-stat at 64-65*.
Now Ive lowered it to 62-63*

Looks like Im getting a woodstove or multi-fuel stove next year. Definitely need new windows too.

I paid $3.63 here about 2 weeks ago and got my driveway all rutted up in the process. All for 30 gallons while I was on vacation, it was 50+ degrees and rain here. Frost coming out of the ground (dirt driveway) and a 30,000 lbs propane truck don't go well together. I got it up the tailpipe pretty good on that deal.

We paid $2.35/gal in Ohio. That's about $1500 in heat so far this season! Our house doesn't have the best windows, but it's only 10 yrs old. I'm in the planning stages of a shop and would love to include radiant heat, but I think the cost of propane is going to kill that dream.

It would run about $1400+ to tap into the natural gas line on our road and I would have to replace out propane furnace with a gas one (that's our only propane appliance).
Then I would consider radiant heat in the shop... depending on how much cheaper the natural gas is....

You may be able to convert the furnace with a different orifice. No doubt natural will be cheaper. Not sure by how much, but it will eventually pay for itself.

Yea..If the furnace is fairly new, I would just convert it. Different orifices and spring in the gas valve. If its the same age as the home though, might not be a bad idea to replace it. Most likely you can sell it and recoop a few bucks.

Nat gas is way cheaper than Propane. Definitely worth it if you plan to live there a while.

I had my most recent Propane fill up. It was $2.45/gal. The bill was $238.
Almost half compared to last month's $500 bill.

Mainly because I turned the t-stat down to 60* overnight, and generally kept it below 62* during the day.
Just keep a space heater in the bedroom overnight - which doesnt seem to effect the electric bill more than $10-$15.

Finally we're getting into some warmer weather though. I expect the next bill to be around $100...And hope thats the last one for the season..

In a packet of coupons received in the mail today was one from the local Shell station.
They fill portable propane tanks and RVs, etc. This is the first time I ever recall receiving a coupon from a gas station. Besides offering 32oz Bud Ice 3/$5; or $2.00 off 10 or more gallons of gas; there is a coupon announcing a Propane Special -- "Bulk Proane* $2.99/gallon." *I'm sure proane is what the California school system teaches regarding the contents of them-there big white tanks.
