Propane garage heater install HOW TO?

hey guys.

looking for a some good info how to properly install my propane heater this next week.

specifically: illustrations or pictures that show how to.

ive gathered lots of good info from here already and have what i think is a good start.

yes, i know, every county is different and i should check my local codes. but for anybody who is new to any trade knows just how unintuitive code language can be. i will be getting this checked by a professional after install. so save the safety talks for when you actually see something i did incorrect.

so, is there a good website with all this stuff already posted, do you have a link you could provide, etc....

the setup:

shipping container, 40Lx8Wx10H
2" foam board insulation (R12) with 1/8" plywood walls.
Mr. Heater Maxx 45k btu
100 gallon propane tank
using 3" B exhaust pipe, venting vertically

mounting the tank OUTSIDE of container (does this pose any freezing or other disadvantages?

mounting heater flush to ceiling (1" actually), about 9' from one end.

using 1/2" black pipe from tank to heater w/ 24" yellow ss flex, shut off, and? i will pose more questions later

You wan't advice to "PROPERLY" install your heater but don't wan't to hear the code/safety talks. Well taking some time to learn the proper codes for your locality IS the proper way to install it.

i will be getting this checked by a professional after install.

I guess if you prefer to possibly do things incorrectly and don't mind having to possibly redo it thats your game.

The electrical feed is recommended to be on it's own circuit and hard wired. Having a shut-off/service switch at the unit is a good idea as well.
If you don't have some type of interior wall (which might be tough on 8' wide) than effectively mounting a thermostat to work properly might be difficult. Try standing it off the wall so air can circulate behind it.

The tank allways has to be outside never inside. It doesn't pose any problems outside. If you plan to have the tank filled by a distribution company it needs to be located properly and by code or they probably won't fill it.

i understand how this reads, but its mostly due to reading a lot of these forums and getting a lot of warnings and no real advice. my apologies if it seems harsh.

what i really am looking for a is the smaller details, like:

the clean out- where does this have to be?
what direction doe the pipe need to pipe need to be facing?

are there specific ID/OD pipe needed for proper supply to the heater?
- ie 1/2" is good up to this amount of BTU or pressure or ?

what size gauge is commonly used for a *** size system or tank?
- ie a gauge that is rated for 300 psi will work up to this temp

does a tank outside need to be insulated? what are the effects of not insulating?

Well as i said the warnings are the advice if you get my drift.

You first mention that you will be doing a vertical install (prefered installation). If you have a container with flat roof you should install vertical if possible.

Installation of a cleanout trap or condensate drip line will depend on what type catagory the heater falls into. This will also determine if the location is residential/comercial etc..

The best advice i can give you is thoroughly read the instructions a couple of times. I was cluless when i first started researching it so be patient.

The gas line size is mainly determined on the total length of the system and the total BTU load. There are several gas line size tables available on-line including the LP Servicemans handbook.

The tank doesn't need to be insulated. LP gas will not freeze. Your gas supplier can/will install the proper regulator, test/check your system as well as set line pressure.
