I thought I would share my garage heater and small welding cart hack. So the challenge was making the setup and teardown of my Mr. Heater 30,000/60,000 BTU propane heater easier. It was always a bit of a pain to:
1. Haul out the heater
2. Haul out the propane tank
3. Get a wrench and connect the gas line
4. Get the extension cord and plug it in (An 8" power cord? Really Mr. Heater??)
5. Now I can use it.
6. Reverse the process to put it all away.
I though of making a cart, or permanently mounting, etc. but I did not want to take up more floor space.
I had a small Harbor Freight wire welder and recently bought the matching HF cart. There is wasted space on the cart. I don't use the tank holder on the back or the bottom shelf. Thus my idea.
I made a wooden base holder for the propane tank and mounted it to the back. I used a bungie cord to hold the top of the tank and put the hooks through key holes on the cart where a chain would go to hold a welding tank.
I placed the Mr. Heater on the bottom shelf pointing out permanently connected in to the propane tank. I left an extension cord connected to the Mr. Heater so it is all ready to go. Wheel it out. Plug it in, start it up. When it runs, you can place your hand on top of it, just warm. So I don’t think I have any safety issues. It Takes up no more floor space than the cart already did. Note, I will never use both at the same time. See pics below.
