Ok, so I bought a little propane heater for the shop. I'm getting ready to head to the gas company to grab a 100# tank.

I'm a little leery about having that tank hanging out in the shop.

Do you guys leave the tank indoors or find plumb it inside from out?

Search is your friend. Lots of prior GJ threads where propane tanks installed outside garage and piped in to heater.

If the GJ Advanced Search doesn't find them, use Google.

Ayuh,.... If it's a Portable heater, I put the tank as far away from the heater as the hose will allow,....

If it's a permanent install, put the tank outdoors, 'n plumb in the gas line,...

You want the tank outdoors. Set it, tie it off and pipe it to the area you want the heater. LP tanks indoors are not legal or good sense. That is why I only do it occasionally;)

Keep it outside, if at all possible. I handle 100 lb tanks all day everyday. Most would cringe at what I do to them, They are remarkably tough, until they aren't. Don't fear them, but respect them. Propane is (relatively) low pressure, (about 125psi) compared to some bottled gas, but it is still pressurized flammable gas. Be Safe!

I have a 25' "BBQ Hose Extension" my propane guy made for me to allow me to use my 30-60K BTU propane heater off a 50 gallon bottle.

I keep the bottle outside, the heater inside.

I guess it's time to put a hole in the brick..

Wonder if I could come up the exterior wall, through the soffit and into the shop. That'd work pretty easily and would be relatively easy to remove when I leave.

100 pounds of propane has the explosive force of my ex wife .. put her .. err it .. outside .... where she belongs
the propane or the wife?

ps: I bought a 100# also. But on the first fill I realized I had a problem. The weigh a lot! Around 170#? I have trouble with my hands and it is difficult if not impossible to lift into my truck bed. It is a Ford Ranger, pretty low by most regards. Getting it out is not a problem, gravity helps there. I wish I had gotten two 40# tanks now.

You are right about hard to handle the 100# tanks and that is why I did the 2 40# bottles and even they weigh somewhere around 90# filled. At least I can transport them in my Ranger for filling when needed. I built a makeshift storage container that keeps the bottles dry and clean but yet is not air tight to allow ventilation. Has worked great for the past 4 years with no issues.

around here, they will laugh at you if you ask them to fill two, customer owned, 100# propane cylinders at your location. Or pay 10 X the price, where as they will "get around to it" sometime in the next week - or two ....

I agree with the outside sentiment. A whip hose and some black pipe will cost you very little and you can run your sediment trap, a nice ball valve, etc. easily which you should be doing anyway. Makes it easy for fill up too. Just call in your exchange and the next day, boom! Fire up the heater!! Don't need to run to the propane shop or be home to let them in.

I bought all that last night. I guess I'm drilling holes in brick today. ;)

They wanted like a $50 service fee to come fill my bottle so throwing it on the trailer isn't a bit deal.

don't have any issues moving around the 100# bottle. It's mounted on a hand truck and i transport it on a trailer, vertically with no issues.
