I have a Superior Radiant, model GR45 http://www.superiorradiant.com/Products/ResidentialGarageHeaters.aspx that I installed in my garage this fall.

It has worked great until today. I was out painting my bench last night and had the heat turned up to 15 C and was quite comfortable. I went back out today at lunchtime to check on my paint and it was cool in the garage. The heater was not working.

The control module is blinking 3 times which indicates an "Ignition Lockout".

I am not sure what might have changed to have caused this. I went through the trouble shooting guide without any luck. I have propane and the tank was filled over a week ago. I checked the outside vent and the intake appears clear and when trying to start I can smell propane coming out of the exhaust. The propane valve on the appliance is getting 24V when trying to start.

I pulled the ignitor out and tried it and I am getting a spark.

Any idea what "Ignition Lockout" might be other than it won't start?

The current temperature is -24C but it was -38C last week and everything went well.

The only other thing is the inlet pressure. Maybe something has changed in one of the regulators and dropped the pressure to the appliance and I don't have the correct pressure. What tool do I use to check the inlet pressure?

My guess would be the CO lockout safety. See if their is a section in the manual about resetting the heater.

It says to reset the heater to disconnect power for 5 seconds. I have done this a few times without any success. I left it unplugged for a couple of hours today.

Call the companies tech support line ??

Looks like that's already done. . .

My friends Superior crapped out the same way and it was some control module. ***** when it's cold out and the water starts to freeze. He put a secondary heater in now for a back up. . .just in case it happens again.

Well I spent some more time with this tonight.

The company tech suggested I check the spark in the unit as I had confirmed that the ignitor had spark by removing it from the burner unit and testing it by holding it close to the unit, which produced spark.

Tonight I pulled the burner unit out and test for a spark and I did not have one. I adjusted the gap on the ignitor back to aprox. 1/8" (as per the instruction manual) and achieved spark on the burner. I reinstalled the burner and it lit!

Now I am wondering why the gap would have changed? Or have I had a power loss to the ignitor. I have reported what happened to the company tech, maybe he will have some insight tomorrow. For now I have heat......

And yes, the thermostat is set to keep it warm and my electric heater is still plugged in with the temperature set 5 degrees lower....... just in case the gremlin returns.......
