Looking for suggestions and photos how you connected the piping to your propane two stage regulator. I will be using the 120 gallon type rental propane tank. I see most two stage regulators use 1/2 inch pipe thread on the outlet side of the regulator. I will be using a 50,000 BTU Big Max if that makes any difference and the tank will be on the outside wall of the building. I will pull the permit in the next few weeks, already meet the 3 foot and 10 foot rules for the tank location.
Did you use a flexible line from the regulator to your garage or do you use a union and line everything up to direct connect the schedule 40 pipe to the regulator?
Do you mount the two stage regulator onto the building with a 40 inch long pigtail from the tank, or arrange it to have the regulator under the hat on the propane tank?
Really appreciate the suggestions and photos!

Many tank rental contracts have very specific “rules” on who and what can be connected to their tank. Think most say customers are NOT allowed to make connections.

The propane company set my tanks and ran the line from the tank to the regulator.

They also leak checked the plumbing I installed from the regulator to the heater.

I had my part ready to go when they installed the tank, outside line, and regulator.

The tank rental company has me do the connection to their tank regulator as long as I have a permit in place, which I will have. My concern is to go ahead with the schedule 40 plumbing in place and to line up the 1/2 inch pipe (may go 3/4 inch for future appliances) directly to the regulator on the top of the 120 gallon tank. I would hate to change to plumbing after the tank arrives and was hoping someone had some height measurements for the pipe from the ground to go directly into the tank hat. Perhaps I'll drive around and look at someones 120 gallon tank that is already set up. I have searched the internet for photos and see some pretty scary methods of doing this. Got many good ideas from GJ on much of the Big Max install. If you have a photo of the 120 gallon tank with the two stage regulator installed in the hat that would be a big help, thanks!

I just did this hookup myself using 1/2 black pipe to two 100lb tanks outside. Depending on code in your area propane company will probably run soft copper tubing to your hookup with flared copper connections. 120lb tank is approx 48" high. I ran 1/2 black pipe from my heater all the way to the outside wall and then simply added a 1/2 to 3/8 npt reducer. Just remember that through the wall (inside the wall) there is to be no connections for obvious reasons. Also you cannot use compression fittings for propane!!!!!!! You must use flared fittings.
