propane "sniffer"??

dont the gas companies have some kind of "sniffer" they use to check for propane and natural gas leaks?? this is kinda o/t but I need to check my camper out before hunting season to make sure everything is safe and working properly. What are these devices called, are they cheap enough to buy for occasional use, etc... thanks-

I doubt if the gas company will check your camper for you.....I'd call a furnace repair man and see if they would do it for free or a small charge. Also some fire departments have CO detectors that also have "chips" in them to detect propane or natural gas. You could also go with the old way. A cup of soapy water and a small brush, brush the fittings with the soap/water solution. If you see bubbles there is a leak. Good Luck

I had a leak in my RV once, I could smell the nasty stinking stuff that they put in the propane. I then did soap and water to find it.

But you can goto a RV / Camping store and buy a gas sniffer to around $50 or so. Then just power it up (usually on 12 volt) and move it around. I have one permanently installed in my RV. You can test it with a cheap lighter to verify operation.

get A Tester And use It . 20 Yrs Ago I Tried To Light A Furnace In The Crawl Space Of My Northern Michigan Cottage.
B-o-o-m I Was In There With Fire. Thought I Was Dead. When I Realised I Had To Get Out. L-u-c-k-y Skin All Off Hands Face & Ears Burnt & Blistered, Hair Burnt.. In Hospital 1 1/2 Mos. Lots Of Physical Therapy On Hands To Get Fingers Moving Again.

Nuff Of That.... Yes It Was Propane.... get A Tester..
